This is the type of police work that makes people hate cops. An innocent man railroaded. 19 years!!! It's sickening and DC came out of this same, sick MPD culture. Not to mention the real murderer got away with it!

They found that the Police Department unlawfully discriminated against Black people for years and committed a torrent of abuses that went unpunished because of systemic deficiencies in training and accountability."

I'm really sorry your thread was hijacked, but I must say I haven't seen so many arguments and personal attacks since the Covid thread a few years ago. I was in the thick of it then. Now I just sit back with 🍿 and watch how members demean each other. It's sad but entertaining, and it illustrates the divide within the US.

Since you're watching from your seat so far above us, I'm surprised you didn't notice that the personal attacks began with Hollydolly herself, deciding I was a racist and talking with Sea Breeze about me like middle school mean girls while quoting Maya Angelou at me like they think they have her backing. She also called Myrtle ignorant. See posts 93 through 110.

Calling people racist for siding with the police in the George Floyd case is odd as well as hateful. The arresting officer was black and of the other three two were white and one was Asian.

Watch the documentary I linked and you'll see how Minneapolis politics and mob rule determined that four innocent men went
to prison.

If you weren't calling me a racist then please tell me what you meant when you said (after quoting me):
"Some people will bend over backwards to blame the victim if his skin is black or brown, while defending murderers if their skin is white. Very telling."
Then Holly agreed with you bolding the "telling" and adding
"When people show you who they are believe them"

If you two weren't calling me a racist then what exactly did you think was so telling about my position?
It's these sideways insults that are childish and the two of you who need to grow-up and say things outright.

I'm not afraid to say what I think, and that is that it's the people like you, who check skin color before forming opinions, who are the racists and you, with all your shouting in large print are achieving nothing but virtue signaling.

In incidents like this [the original arrest] I don't think skin color / ethnicity [should] matter and/or does matter with most people.

Too me it's merely criminal~v~law enforcement officer. And the officers are there to try to protect us. While the criminals are there only to inflict crime upon us. It may be minor or major [felony] but still a crime either way. And IMO we should support those officers performing on our behalf.

Are the police always perfect ? No ... none of us are.

Was the death of Floyd unfortunate ? Again IMO not really. He was a felon, walking the street , he caught a break on his felony by serving only five years , he had a chance to clean-up his act ... he didn't and he paid the price.

I have said before, if a person dosen't want a bad interaction with the police ... behave, it's just that simple.

What are you talking about? Who is grieving in this thread? Now you're popping in and calling another member a sadist? This is the kind of attack that seadoug was referring to, as being sad, yet somewhat entertaining. Glad you've decided to join the show with your unwarranted attack. Not surprising.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of that, too. I'm guessing that if it doesn't make sense it's probably another backhanded way of calling us racist without actually saying the word.

Since watching that, (The Fall of Minneapolis) documentary I've been unable to sleep because I keep thinking of J. Alexander Kueng being locked up in prison for 3.5 years, all because, on his third day of police work, a drug addict overdosed and died while in his custody. In the documentary his police training teacher said he was one of the best students he ever had. His mother said her biggest fear was that he would come home a changed person. She started to cry while she was saying that.

The first time I watched the video, where he goes over and gets George Floyd out of the van and sits him against the wall, I was struck by how patient and kind he was.

I don't understand why my lack of sympathy for Floyd who is black, is very "telling" to Hollydolly and SeaBreeze, and it "shows them who I am," but their lack of sympathy for Kueng, who is black, doesn't mean anything at all.

This whole thread is confusing, particularly the conclusion that some of us are racist based on our opinion in this one case.

I used to think that, and then you and Sea Breeze did the thing of saying I favored the white man and that was "telling" and then you said my arguments were "weak as water," and then you called me "pedantic" for just trying to get clarity on what we were saying and then you called Myrtle, "ignorant" and SeaBreeze called me a liar and Rakaia called Rgp a liar. And so on.

I was so shocked and hurt when you and SeaBreeze decided I was a racist, I went off the board for over two weeks, thinking that maybe this thread would be closed or a few posts deleted, but apparently not.

I have not tried to get this thread closed. I said I went off the board "thinking that maybe the thread would be closed." I was not trying to make it happen, I was just watching it, thinking that it probably would be closed over personal attacks. How do you figure I was "trying to get it closed" by not posting on it at all? I was trying to stay out of the fray!

Do as you wish, Holly. I didn't realize that this thread was a hill you'd die on.

If there has been a misunderstanding, then all it takes is a polite apology if something was misconstrued. Perhaps a little humor. Sometimes words fail us, and convey a message we hadn't intended. We all do it accidentally at one time or another.

Since this is a forum of mature adults, and this is a community that enjoys the camaraderie of being passed it, surely there is a way to converse without the angst? This applies to both sides of it. Right-fighting is rarely worthwhile. There are no winners reading through all this. At least none I can see.
