Received another card for the former residents

Why would you think it was creepy?
It just is. These people don’t know you but I’ve done worse. At our last house we kept getting someone else’s mail. We kept leaving it in our mailbox expecting our couriers to clue in. They didn’t so I drove to their house and hand delivered it. They genuinely seemed pleased . It’s probably illegal

It IS considerate but somewhat awkward especially if the person doesn’t seem to care.
Creepy isn’t the right word and I apologize. ‘Awkward but sweet’ are the right words.

The person should have been grateful that you cared enough. Putting ‘moved’ or ‘wrong address’ on the envelope and sticking it back into the system is the right thing to do.

this is from a different sender. I called the former owner telling her what happened, and she said, "Throw it away."
Did you tell her who the sender was? Maybe it is someone she knows wouldn't have a personal message (such as, I get cards from realtor, insurance agent, etc., and wouldn't consider those important).

Considering that the owner asked you to toss it, why are you more concerned about the Xmas card than the owner is?
Maybe 'cause there could be a $50 bill in there and by tossing it, she'd never know? JUST kidding... I know it would be technically illegal to open it. Then again, I doubt that the CIA or USPS has an agent stationed by Deb's door to see if she opens a Christmas card or not. This happened to me a couple of times after moving here... former owner had died and got a few Christmas cards. I just did a return to sender (if there was a return address) and scribbled a note on the back flap "sorry to tell you, but Mrs. --- passed away a year ago."

I have book learning, but not "street smarts".
You are smarter than you give yourself credit for. You instinctively know what to do but second guess yourself. Trust your instincts more. You aren’t as naive as you portray yourself to be.

Having said all that, I did pick on you concerning this thread. It reminded me of the thread you made about the face mask being on your lawn and not knowing what to do with it. I KNOW you’re smarter than that.
Stop short changing yourself in the smarts department. You’ve got more street smarts than you lead most to believe.

She hadn't come to get the card, so I took it to the Post Office and asked it be "returned to sender". Then I called her number and left a message telling her what I had done.
Now that's resolved looking forward to the next topic that generates interesting/entertaining replies
