hypothetically most people want a legacy to be remembered by. I am a black hole of events and achievements therefore rather than ’I am’ I am just the opposite.
I have 2 wonderful daughters and a wonderful wife so obviously some substance there. however nothing dynamic or meaningful in the real world.

Perhaps I feel cheated for losing out on 30 yrs of productivity and social growth. I appreciate my come back years from 2005 forward.
Comparably, the time and opportunity to leave my mark as a reference to be remembered by has long passed and forgotten.

There's something to be said for being a 'Steady Eddie'. Perhaps that's what you are?

My Father is the most responsible person I've ever known. He isn't leaving any great legacy...only that his whole family adored and respected him. At the end of the road, family is everything.
 
I shouldn’t whine but I am going to. I wonder if I would be more gratified not going through life or forcibly living because the law and society frowns on self-inflicted death. Life is a bummer and in spite of how crappy life is you can’t leave even though you didn’t want it to begin with. Times as this passes eventually but this state of mind lingers into the next, and the next until you realize it’s reruns without escape.

Sorry Mr Ed, but you need to take more walks in the park, where you can admire the trees and smell the roses. It can do wonders for a severe case of Weltschmerz.

You are living in a hell of your own making. I hope you are enjoying it. I wouldn't and would change it because I can. On the other hand you seem trapped and locked in by the jailer you are to yourself. For me, I am having too much fun with my life to save you from yourself. Enjoy the ride.

While I don't completely disagree, it is the closest thing to a monument a common person will ever have. That's why they are called monuments.

I wrestle with this because they are for the families more than that lost individual. There is a reason why such things have been found going back millennia ranging from the grand to the humble.

That quote comes from Ronnie Hawkins, who came to Canada in 1956 as a young rockabilly singer along with his good friend and drummer Levon Helmes. Both of them came from Arkansas. Hawkins stayed here in Canada for the rest of his life, and his band The Hawks eventually morphed in to The Band. Ronnie Hawkins was the king of the one liner jokes. A few of them.......Its Saturday night, get drunk and be somebody ! Advice to a very young Robbie Robertson who had just joined The Hawks as a 16 year old guitar star...Stick with me kid, you won't make a lot of money, but you will have to fight off the girls with a hockey stick.

He once walked into the only Rolls Royce dealership in Toronto with $27,000 in cash in a brown paper bag to buy a Silver Cloud. The salesman ignored him. The next day Hawkins came back with the Mayor of Toronto, Nathan Phillips . Hawkins got the RR.

Ronnie Hawkins was awarded an Honorary Canadian Citizenship for his decades long support of Canadian musicians and bands. He was also honored as a Member of the Order Of Canada. He died recently at his home on Stoney Lake, known as The Hawk's Nest. JimB.

A legacy? Why?

Isn't it enough to be born & like everyone having the capacity to struggle thru life. And you do have that capacity as is shown by your posts.

Events like Dec. 7th. 1941 a day that will live in infamy has to be explained to some people. Or ask some teens what Dec. 11th. 2001 has historical importance. Elvis Presley means nothing to younger people until explained. So much for legacy right!

So for me legacy is not something I care about. Just being able to eat a good meal or walk in the park to enjoy what there is to enjoy works for me.

Wow that's great. I am very familiar with the Band and have always been a fan, but I didn't know that interesting bit of history. Thank you for sharing that.
