Trial to begin for a man that shot a girl in his driveway

That's up in your neck of the woods, I looked it up. 36 miles from you. I remember that, so awful.

Yes. It explains why high-density housing in so much of the country is a necessity. I'm more amazed that there are still people in the rural areas with fairly large holdings.
yes we have a massive rural area countrywide.. which is why so many people are living cheek by jowl in towns, cities and villages because have a protective order on the countryside...(green belt) .. and that's fantastic because we the public are allowed basically to wander anywhere we like unlike the USA where rural land is off limits to anyone other than owners.. but of course that means that housing is built in towns in the most ridiculous places..like the car park of the local pub for example..

I find that quite amusing, that 36 miles away to you Americans mean local news. For us this would be in a completely different county.. maybe even 2 counties away
I know! One thing I loved about England (among a million things) was that if I went to a village, then another, say 10 miles away, the accents were a bit different! I became quite expert in nailing almost exactly where someone lived, within a few miles!

In the western states we have millions of acres of public land at our disposal. We just need to keep them out of the hands of the individual states. (Sagebrush Rebellion)

For example: Idaho, which ranks 3rd by state in public lands

- Land owned by federal government: 61.9% (32.8 million of 52.9 million acres)
- Land owned by agency: FS (62.4%), BLM (35.9%), NPS (1.6%), FWS (0.2%), DOD (0%)

FS - US Forest Service (mostly forests)
BLM - Bureau of Land Management (mostly rangelands)
NPS - National Park Service - a small corner of Yellowstone NP
FWS - Fish Wildlife Service (lands adjacent to water bodies)

There are also Idaho state lands.

What strikes me about this news story is that it's no longer like Perry Mason- with the judge allowing trial "irregularities", so Mason could do his thing. Both the prosecution and defense arguing over minute items they think will influence the trial/jury.

Day 3 of jury selection for the trial of Kevin Monahan, the man accused of fatally shooting Kaylin Gillis in Hebron, New York, April 2023. The hope is to have opening statements tomorrow, today more than 100 potential jurors will be questioned by attorneys
@CBS6Albany

Could the defense possibly go with trespassing? and protection of his property?

found guilty of second degree murder -

"“He truly believes what happened was an accident. That he stumbled and he fell and the shotgun went off by accident,” Mausert said of his client."

Fat chance, hope he has a nice time in jail.

First of all, the article states that he fired 2 shots. Second of all, he had no legal reason to fire any shots. His life was not threatened that I can make out if it.

I hope to follow this trial and hear the defendant’s reasoning for firing 2 shots. Was the rifle a double barrel with 2 triggers? That will make a difference for the prosecution in aiding their case.

^^^The trial is over and he was found guilty. The weapon was a 20ga shotgun. And his excuse is in post #23 as per his lawyer, Mausert.
