"Old Time" Religion may be good or it may not be good!

There is an old song that I always liked called "Old Time Religion." Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, Dolly Parton and dozens of other singers have sung it. I'm sure you all have heard of it:

Give me that old time religion,

Well, sometimes, that "Old Time Religion" just isn't all that good when it gets abused by abusive men.

I agree here ... and the operative word here is believe.

No evidence of , no solid proof , just what is conjured up in one's mind ... sometimes by the influence of others.
 
Well, just sticking to the musical end of it (as an atheist that's all I want to do), let's look at some of the songs that have been inspired by religious beliefs.

and dozens of others, somehow "That Old Time Religion" is less than inspirational, IMO. And that's an understatement.

However, we have the right to think anything that calls itself music is wonderful, if it speaks to us. After all, 'Happy Birthday" is the most frequently sung song in the world!

I must agree. Arguing about it as so many people do, is a waste of time. We all have free will.

I am a Christian but you are free to believe as you see fit. Neither has a right to force the other to accept their way.

I find huge comfort in the Bible and my faith, I get strength and hope which I cannot find anywhere else. Sometimes I get full of this and simply want to share it. As it happens my husband doesn't, but I respect his right and vice versa. We sometimes discuss these matters and that's fine.

J Hubbard Christ, I reckon attempting to control sexual behaviour is totally ineffective!
As the anthropologists said, 'you can't choose what you want, but you can choose what you do about it'.
The Roman Catholic church has a lot to answer for...
 
Religion and its affiliates are the most misunderstood multifaceted organization known to mankind. It is holy and sanctified by ordinary men & women, primarily men who under the Will of their own making dictate the law of society.

Resenting somebody because they have a bugaboo about sex is also bigotry and discrimination.
 
I get to threads like these and forget that Iā€™ve read it and find myself clicking the like button and realizing that Iā€™ve just removed my ā€˜like.ā€™
Itā€™s happening a lot lately.
 
Wow seems like many here are critical of folks who openly believe in Christianity, especially if they post about their preference.

I am a Christian, but not in the traditional way, in that I do not attend church or have a minister. Many Christians tell me I am not really a Christian. I of course disagree...

Christians feel they know something that you need to know, that without it you will suffer forever after death! Now, if you understand what they believe, you may be able to understand why some Christians feel they have an obligation to reach out to you and others like you. Resent it if you must, but at least understand the motivation...

Not me though, I am a Christian, but I do not reach out like that...bad Christian I am! But I know God forgives all...

Christians don't have an obligation to reach out to me, without my consent. And without that consent, Christian proselytizing is annoying at best.
