Are there any actors you don't like to watch?

You don't like Tom Hanks?
Wow!

I'm not fond of Stewart Granger or Lloyd Bridges and, (this is such a silly reason)
They rolled up their sleeves to look like a teenager in the 1950's!

Told ya! That's the silliest reason!

Not a Tom Hanks fan here, either.

Has anyone mentioned Vince Vaughn? No talent, no effort, always the same role. Must have an uncle in the business.

Adam Sandler. Boring, no talent. But he has a fan base, for some reason.

Interesting thread. I don't like the bland and smug and untalented actors like Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn, and all those guys who have roles only because they have an uncle in the business.

I'll make an exception with Amy Schumer. There is something I like about her, but I can understand why most people would just think she is untalented and annoying, lol.

I don't enjoy horror movies or slapstick. Horror movies are just too graphic for me. Exploring the dark side of the human psyche can be interesting, but not when it's accompanied by torture and a lot of blood and guts. I don't like that kind of blood and guts. If I want to watch blood and guts without all the attendant murder and mayhem, I can watch an autopsy.

My father found the Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons hysterical. He'd bust a gut laughing. What about me? Not at all, even as a kid. I'd look at him like he was an escaped mental patient, lol. The Three Stooges? The hair pulling, slapping, head conks, eye pokes, etc., nope, not funny. My father would laugh like he was deranged. I don't watch that genre because I don't think it's funny.

Before talkies, slapstick was a way of telling a story. The Three Stooges talked, but beating up each other was the way they communicated. Although I'm not fond of slapstick in general, I do have an appreciation for Buster Keaton because, unlike The Three Stooges, he didn't just smack people around for a laugh. He was multidimensional, a performance artist, acrobat, and stuntman, writer, director, and cinematographer.

I enjoy classic film noir, other old movies, documentaries/biographies, and indie films. I also enjoy films with visual effects but not those that rely heavily on obviously computer generated special effects. The best visual effects are the ones you never notice, the ones that don’t take you out of the experience because you don't notice they're there.

This is an example of what I dislike. The entire movie is composed of computer generated effects/green screen.

👎Two thumbs down.👎Overrated IMO.

Bella, did you see Silver Linings Playbook with Jennifer Lawrence? I thought she was OK in that movie. No?

My least favorite actor is Martin Clunes (UK's Doc Martin) I cannot stand to look at him and will avoid ANYTHING with him in it and I don't like any of Woody Allen's films or him. Otherwise, I have a few that I generally don't like but sometimes, it depends on the film and the character they portray. I'm not a huge fan of Will Ferrell and Kenneth Branagh has disappointed me more and more recently. Adam Sandler doesn't do much for me but he was pretty funny in Murder Mystery (2019) (which we watched during Covid quarantine so maybe we were just desperate to laugh)
I also don't care for Diane Keaton, no on-screen personality and Kristin Stewart has but one expression on her face at any time.

Interesting topic!
Thanks.

Never did care for Tom Cruise and I like him even less now after watching the Church of Scientology expose by Leah Remini and finding out that he is deeply involved in it.

For me, it's Billy Bob Thorton. Never liked his looks, his demeanor is always cocky, don't like listening to him speak.
Actually, he freaks me out, and always has. The fact that Angelina Jolie was married to him shows what kind of a person he is.....

Who is the other actor who looks and acts just like Thornton? James Brolin? No. The guy who played the fed in The Fugitive. They act and look the same. I would have thought all the women would love them since they are classic 'bad boys'. Oh, now I remember! Tommy Lee Jones.

What's with all the hate for Diane Keaton? She is my honey. So sensitive and intelligent, and it comes across on the screen. Did you know she dated Woody Allen? Another reason for you guys to hate on her, lol.

This is all in good fun, by the way. I'm just amazed at how many of us have loathing for certain actors. I do too, lol !

Yes, I've seen her in "Silver Linings" and... "Winter's Bone", "X-Men", "The Hunger Games", "American Hustle", "Joy", "Passengers", and "Red Sparrow", because there were other actors in those films who were the draw for me. Even though she won the Oscar for "Silver Linings", I'd choose "Winter's Bone" as her best film. Sorry, Randy, she just doesn't ring my bell. 🔔

You are correct, @RandomName , he's another bad boy who I cannot tolerate!

Diane Keaton is a wonderful actress, sweet face, but she is a little....unique. She'd have to be to tolerate Woody Allen.

Do you mean the movie or the t.v. series?
I can't recall which it was, but I can envision the face but not the name.

Anyone say.....Nick Nolte.... another weirdo! 😝

Whoops! Really meant Gary Bussey...he gets weirder&weirder with age.🙄🤯

Previews on YouTube brought another to mind... Bill Nighy. Sorry, just flat-affect, monotone voice... I don't get the appeal. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

I never understood why anyone liked, much less laughed watching the Three Stooges..still I think laughter is healthy so I am happy that some find humor where I don't :D
Oh gosh, my husband does that and I can't stand the Three Stooges. Or another one I hated watching when I was a kid was The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason. Even as a kid, I hated their grubby, poor and unpleasant looking apartment and Ralph Cramden was a horrible, loud, cranky man always picking on Alice.....couldn't stand it. More recently, Jon Voigt is not an actor that I'd watch, nor is Adam Sandler (his movies are always kind of flakey in my opinion) and Amy Schumer (although I think she's more a comedian than an actor right?)

Christopher Walken...creepy, weird!🙄
And that is what makes him such an interesting actor. Because he is creepy and weird. But who knows, maybe he's actually a nice guy who was just burdened with that face and way of coming across. I've been watching an Apple TV series called Severance and he's one of the characters in it and he held up his end of the story very nicely.

I used to like Meryl Streep until she started hogging all the Oscar nominations and trophies and front row seating
But seriously, why didn't she just say "Okay, I've gotten enough recognition so let others have a chance"

Streep has won 3 Academy Awards, 2 BAFTA Awards, 9 Golden Globe Awards, 3 Emmy Awards, and 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as nominations for 7 Grammy Awards and a Tony Award.

That's 26. Where is she going to put all that? And think of all the well deserved actresses who walked away with nothing.
Why not share the joy?

I once heard (don't know how true it is, so take it for what it's worth), but I heard it said that the Oscars are more like a popularity contest among the stars because they aren't even supposed to watching all the movies that they vote on. To me, that almost sounds like those movies that win may not even have any merit as far as all those categories go. I've never been an Oscars night fan so couldn't tell you my experience on this, but have any of you ever watched an Oscar winner and wondered what the hype was about? Like if you'd voted, it would never have gotten an Oscar?
