Hi, boys and girls. I'm home. It's sort of not-quite-overcast and not-quite-sunny, and cold🥶. Really cold🥶! 10 degrees colder than when I got up this morning. We're even going to get frost for the next couple of nights. Thirty-one days until spring? Twenty-two days until DST.

I didn't get lucky this morning so had to work alone, but I finished what I was doing and clocked out 15 minutes early. Shoot me. I looked at next week's schedule. Sir is scheduled to work alone on Tuesday. Guess who isn't going to volunteer to help?

I discovered that there's a place in the company computer where I can opt out of particular days...if I can get into the program, I'm gonna show myself as "Unavailable" on Mondays and Thursdays forevermore.

DD and DGS wanted me to go with them on their way to they don't know where. Nope. By the time I get home, I'm so tired that I don't know where to put my Self and just want to veg. I'm already in my jammies. You read that right: jammies. So no way could I go along with them. It might be acceptable these days to be out in public in jammies, but that's only for other people;).

There's a load of laundry swishing. My Self has declined, with polite thanks, to do anything else today except eat chocolate and play solitaire on the laptop.

Is retirement anywhere in your future plans?

Is retirement anywhere in your future plans?
Retirement? I've flunked retirement so many times that I can't remember if it's five or six! Maybe seven. The first time I retired was in 1990. This is what year? LOL

And...I figured out how to get into the store's system and changed my availability. I am no longer available on Mondays and Thursdays, starting March 4. It wouldn't let me change before that. Why? Because a week from Monday is inventory day, and the schedule has already been set even though it can't be seen by us mere mortals until next Friday at noon.

Just wait. Just wait until the computer rejects some nitwit manager's fiddling with the schedule. Tee hee. Better yet, just wait until the computer tries to assign my time and it won't be allowed. Just wait!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Wonder if that former employee who is now in the Deli ever figured out this trick. Probably not and that‘s a good thing.
Twenty-something years with the company...she still hasn't figured out how to access her schedule on her home computer or on her phone. I'm barely IT literate, but I can suddenly become an expert if it has anything to do with my paycheck.

Anyway, even if she tried to do it, it would backfire on her because deli hours are from 6am-11pm, and she has to be available to work any of those hours.

When I first applied, I specified that I'd only be available 6am-12pm. Once they accepted that and offered me the job, it became carved in stone.

Any suggestion how to solve my problem?

My wife keeps buying and buying food items, stuffs all cabinets full to the brim, the air in the freezer cannot circulate properly, when I open a door, stuffs falls out ..... and I am frustrated. When I buy more storage outside the house, the story merely repeats itself.

She duplicates buying food because she doesn't realize she already has it hidden below all that junk. Storing for the "Big 7+ San Andreas Earthquake" [the fault line between the 2 orange dots on the map] is overdue, but she denies that's the reason although it could be an acceptable reason for me. So, how can I can convince her to either buy less, or to throw away more? -- I do not want to offend women, but is it just a "woman" thing?

PS, she is still working full-time, and I keep bugging her to retire from work. She argues she would be bored at home. And we have large supermarkets 10 driving minutes away, and membership warehouses like Costco and Sam's Club only 20 driving minutes away.

@hollydolly you might be right: she has a stressful job.

I don't think it is a woman's thing at all, I don't do it!

Hoarding is said to be a coping strategy, it is something someone might do if they are fearful perhaps of the future, maybe that they will not have access to the things they need or perhaps it is a memory thing.

I would be careful not to make her feel she is doing something wrong as it might make her more fearful. Instead, perhaps concentrate on assuring her that she will always be provided for.

I may be totally wrong as I am certainly no expert on this subject and, if I were you, I would have a quiet word with your doctor just to see if he/she can advise on what the cause might be and how you can help her overcome whatever is bothering her.

crikey...the frozen food is going to go bad quickly because it's not getting air to it.. you need to tell her if she continues to store stuff like that you may both get serious salmonella poisoning which could be fatal..

The cupboards are giving me anxiety... how can she possibly know what's in there ?... best thing to do is buy some storage baskets which fit in the cupboards...

Is she bored ?.. is shopping for groceries her only outlet ?.. You'll have to get to the bottom of this ..I feel she's stressing over something...

Time to show her the truth. Each day on cabinet or freezer to go thru and clean out. That way she can see everything, what is out of date, what has freezer burn, and how many excess duplicates she has.

She will see that all food stuffs must be organized to use the oldest first. If she can't be organized, keep control of the dated storage, she needs to step back and take a break until she can. Even freezer goods must be dated and organized.

Hopefully, once she knows what she has she can see when something is getting low. I do keep a deep pantry and full freezer but I do rotate. I also know what I have so I can make a proper decision when and what to purchase during sales.

Of course, she will need to buy produce and dairy every week or two. Sounds like she at least has that under control.

Maybe recommend a "Use Up Week" once a month.
That week you can only make meals from the cupboards and freezer or frig.
NO buying that week!
Maybe it will catch on to include more days as she literally sees the light at the end of the freezer. 🙂

Thursday drove 165 miles each way, skied 5+ hours in the Sierra Nevada on 5>9" of fresh snow. Yesterday Adobe Premiere 2021 processed GoPro videos, one powder skiing run of which I loaded onto Youtube and later street walk exercised a couple hours. Today's high was 58F, darkly cloudy, raining here in San Jose.

So this Saturday morning 2/17/24, went down to our large Kaiser Permanente hospital and spent about 5 minutes in a hospital gown moving in and out of a computed tomography scan machine's donut. That uses focused X-rays to create 3-dimensional cross-sectional radiologic images of structures and organs inside a body. An expensive copay process that cost this Medicare senior $205.

Nurse first rigged up a left arm artery to inject a contrast dye. Will take at least till the end of next week before doctors bring me in to discuss results. At age 20 I suffered a splenic artery aneurysm that has severely limited my adult life for 5+ decades as I live at the edge of the eternal abyss. A condition few people live long with.

Has been bothering me again now for about 3 months. Studying anatomy, self diagnosed decades ago what medical science was unable to. So am intensely interested in results my 2 superbly skilled women doctors will discuss with me as well as actually looking via free DICOM software at what such shows on my home computer. Medical science may now be able to actually repair the damage without life threatening surgery by routing a special catheter up my arteries.

Today when I looked outside, I felt happy because I had gotten that online grocery delivery yesterday because the weather got bad today. Yesterday was a brief time of decent weather.

I just found out how to use the Bluetooth feature on my headphones to work with my computer so I can walk around and listen to music from my computer at the same time. I've used it before with my phones. I'm glad it works with my new laptop.

Today is a day of rest while the weather is poor.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'm enjoying reading your stories.

~Refilled some containers and dispensers.

~Continued backing up and deleting files and photos from this computer in preparation for when the new computer comes in a couple of days. I don’t have much to do because I had started the process when I thought I was going to be able to reinstall the previous operating system (to replace the “upgrade” that has caused so much trouble).

@caramel
Welcome to the forum!

It's a reasonable looking day for a change. We've arranged a 'Zoom' call with our girls who are together for the weekend. This keyboard of this laptop is falling apart, and can't easily be replaced, so I'm using a cheap USB one to keep me going. I fired up my ancient Dell Latitude and ordered a new cheap battery for it. It's a well made machine with a metal case, unlike this plastic one. I'll use it for portable use and this machine as a sort of 'desktop'. Technology - groan.
