Where do you get your hair cut, and how much does it cost?

The Sticks, Northeast PA.
When I was a kid, I went to a barber, and I got a 'haircut". I think it cost about $1.
Today, I make an appointment with a stylist , in a hair salon, for a "do" and it costs $35 every month. Barbers have become extinct. Years ago, I would have never dared to enter a "hair salon". Now, at the salon, I see guys with tin foil things in the hair, getting eyebrow "stylings", and dye jobs.
Where do you get your hair cut, and how much does it cost?
 

we still have barbershop's here in missouri, the one I go to
is about 3/4 mile away, but since i cannot drive any more I
call the head barber'ess and she comes to my home to cut
my hair, I have it all cut down to scalp these days....normal
is 17.00 but I tip her very well.....and okay with it.....

I haven't had someone else cut my hair since in the military and on deployment in 2004 because I couldn't cut it myself "out there".
But actually I've been cutting my own hair since the late 70's / early 80's.
I've saved a buck or two, so there's that regardless of the outcome.

I mostly use clippers with attachments and a handheld mirror to trim the line in back. I even have a Flowbee HA.

This is from just this past Wednesday night after a haircut (photo taken to share with a friend) ... I was struggling to reach the camera and forgot to take my readers off ...

I do my own barbering. I'm not paying upwards of 20 bucks when I can't say "Longer on top" anymore.

I just snap on the 1/4" guide and buzz my whole noggin. Takes about 10 minutes. In fact, it takes me longer to clean and oil the Whal, roll up the cord and stow it away in the pouch than it does to give myself a flawless haircut.

Exactly. Ever since the world started playing zombie apocalypse I've done this and I'd started before that paying absurd rates for it in the clip joint (pun fully implied).

About the only thing I stoop to overpaying for now is to occasionally have somebody clean up and shape the back neckline I can't see well.
 
By request from my wife. In 1995 she asked me to cut my hair to the point of being able to shave my head. Did that. Next step was to shave my head, did that. Shaving has been my style since. So no hair to cut, just stand in front of the mirror and shave.

Not sure when but several years ago there was a store going out of business that had a stock of triple blade floating head razors & blade packs for a ridiculously low going out of business sale price. Best I can remember the price for all was under $50.00. I bought all they had. Still have enough for about 8 more years.

Mirror?

I'm more likely to go outside, buzz it off all over, and then go by my head's shadow on the ground to catch any high spots or shaggy tails. Birds love my hair as nesting material. Only after that do I check things over with two mirrors and a strong light.

And before you say that I'm cheap... why, yes I am.

Could I be talked out of this? What are you offering?
 
Back in the 80's when really big hair was in style, I stood in Kroger looking at the home perms and told my husband I could get a perm at the salon for about a hundred dollars or he could give me one at home. He was willing to try. Turned out that with a can of beer for courage he got the hang of it right away, bragging about his ability to use two end papers at once.

I don't perm anymore, but my hair is still long. My husband cuts the back straight across (takes him about ten seconds) then I cut the front and the layers, which takes a few minutes longer.

I not only save money I don't risk a stroke from the shampoo sink.

I go to Super Cuts been doing so for about 7 yrs,before Covid you didn't; need to make appt ahead of time they always do a great job
I was there 3 weeks ago, didn't have an appt the price for senior was $23.50, I usually give a $5 tip
The woman who cut my hair told me they are eliminating making an appt ahead of time
 
I have cut my own hair for almost 40 years. I cut all 3 of my sons hair also until they were grown and on their own. I saved a ton of money over the years. Six moths ago I started visiting a barber in a small town near me. It is a one man shop by appointment only. It was getting tough for me to cut my hair these days. My barber charges seniors $15 or $16. I really cant remember. I just give him $20 as he does a great job.
 
I go to a barber in the little town just north of where I live. He is my age or older and has run this Barber Shop for many years. His haircut costs $22.00 and I tip him $5. I have preferred barbers since I was a kid. When I had longer hair, I did use some 'Stylists', thank God, that time did not last...

I like barbers know body can cut my hair right, like a barber does. I can wash it and it actually just lays down like a wear it.
