Ah... Palestine Children's Relief Fund... I think I'll check into it as well. I'm pretty picky about where to donate for any cause because so many aren't transparent in how they distribute funds vs skimming off for their own execs, but maybe this one will work for me.
My wife and I concern ourselves mainly with the women and children in war torn areas. They are the innocent and cannot defend themselves. Too many are killed maliciously and without cause.
I have noticed on several occasions that if you save a child at an early age, they will grow up differently than a child who is left to save himself or the old “every man for himself” mentality. Even the children here in America act the same way. I have been proactive with children’s organizations that attempt to advance small children’s thinking that life should not be a struggle, but it’s as good as “you” can make it for yourself. Many kids have indeed responded positively and that’s what the goal is.
In Philadelphia, the PSP joined with the Philadelphia Boys Clubs, which goes under another name now because girls are also included, which slips my mind and we have demonstrated to a special Governor’s Board that if children in rough homes are treated and taught how to behave appropriately, they can grow up to be very good citizens. I still get a letter now and then thanking me for taking a child under my wing and teach them and get them thinking that they can be and do whatever they want, if we address them in a positive manner.
My wife took on a young female of 8 y/o. She had a terrible home life. She was raped by her 12 y/o brother and her mother’s boyfriend. She was introduced to drugs at an early age, along with alcohol. Today, she has completed high school, has a degree from Temple University and is the Director of HR for a large company in Philadelphia. She calls my wife or stops by every Christmas and they have exchanged gifts each year since 1991.
This now 30 something y/o female is married with 2 children and an educated husband. Their marriage is rock solid. My wife was so proud of her that after she graduated from Temple, she paid out of her own money for her and her mother to go to Disney World for 3 days, 4 nights. When they came home, she was able to get her mom to start going back to church and she has turned her life around. Unfortunately, her brother is serving a long stretch in prison. I last saw him in 2012 and his approximate release date is 2028, but he has had his issues in prison, so I don’t know if he had any time added on or not.
