I'm in for now. I won't say for the day because when I do that, I end up going back out to the garden. It's way too hot. Right now only 86 but the feels-like temp is 92. Air-you-can-wear season.

@hollydolly I don't care what you use, those hedges are too high to be fooling with them. You listening? I have spoken. Hire it done, please.

those are not my hedges in that picture... my hedges would never be allowed to become so unruly... it's just a picture of the same High Reach trimmer that I use. It's very heavy, but you're right, my hedges are all around 7 -8 feet high, and it's hard work.

They look nice now.. and in fact they look nice pretty much all the time because I keep on top of it.. but it's not just the tops it's all the side, and sweeping up.. and like I said the slope in back garden which prevents the ladders from being totally stable, so all the time I'm I'm up on top of the ladders with this heavy electric Trimmer.. ( sometimes I use a shorter one for the tops).. I'm scared the ladders are going to throw me off..

You know I have neighbours both sides.. who are younger... much younger in the case of one neighbour ( them who caused the flood in my house) ...and much stronger and more capable.. yet they don't keep their gardens as nice as mine. In fact my gardens are by far the nicest of all along this part of the road.. which has 10 houses.... ...

Does a local paramedic, rescue squad, fire department or other public service come immediately when (your version of) 911 is called for a medical emergency?
NO... In a word.... if it's a child for example a cot death.. then for some unknown reason the fire brigade will be called out as well, or if for example someone is in a dangerous position , like on a cliff, or a beach or on a building.. ... but in general if you call for an ambulance because someone is very sick at home..only the ambulance comes

I've called 911 for a few medical emergencies. Fire department paramedics arrived within a few minutes. In most cases the person I called for needed emergency treatment on the spot and subsequent hospital care. The FD paramedics transported the patient to the hospital and billed the insurance. In one case the copay was zero, the others it was $150.

In the US, paramedic ambulance is not only the fastest way to get to the ER, the patient jumps the waiting room queue and is seen by a doctor immediately.

Virtually EVERY doctor's office, hospital, ER, urgent care, clinic and other medical providers' phones answer with a recording that says, "If you or someone you're caring for is having a medical emergency, hang up and call 911."

it used to be the same here in the UK..if you were transported by ambulance, it meant it was an emergency and you got seen before anyone who was at A&E... not now.. you are just left on a trolley in the corridor until a doctor can see you. nurses will take vitals but otherwise , unless you have a limb hanging off.. you'll wait as long as anyone else..

No-one pays out of pocket for an ambulance here.. it's 'free'' at point of service..

Ken N Tx - please take care today. I hope family and friends are all safe.
Thank you, one of my daughters has a home about 2 miles from this, she had damage around her area but her
home is fine..Patio furniture in her pool.
Here is a pic of one of my fishing areas.

you know what's also sad about this..if this happened in a European country... like say Sweden or Bulgaria..or Italy... there would be extra help sent from the UK, and other European countries... I could be wrong but I never hear of anyone helping the USA when this happens ...
Surrounding cities and county's respond. For the most part USA is on its own.

We still have "May Grey," meaning ocean fog blows in at night till the sun burns it off by around noon.

I saw so many pretty flowers on my morning walk, but the grey sky makes for dull-looking flowers.

My big Boxer (95 pounds, supposedly 8 years old but I think older) does no longer want to get up in
the morning, but is still eager to join us on our evening walks. I doubt whether he will reach the average
Boxer age of 10 years. My last two Boxer maidens lived to 14 and 15 years.

I walked this morning only with my two smaller Boxers, 65 and 85 pounds heavy. I have to get used to it.
Very few streets have sidewalks because everyone drives cars, but I love to walk for health reasons.

Glad you and yours are ok, @Ken N Tx, but pictures being worth a thousand words, this one says that many and a whole lot more. What a devastating event.

No offense meant to NHS, but I'd rather pay the $150 copay, get emergency treatment, immediate transport, and be seen immediately when I or a loved one is in dire medical straits.

To be clear, the emergency treatment is "free" aka underwritten by taxes. Transport to the hospital is what's billed.

We took care of getting the flowers on our parents graves this morning.

We use 2 bags of potting soil the length of the headstone.
One slightly over laps the first bag.
This morning we a bag & half of the second one.

We remove the old bags & its soil.
It seemed it was harder getting old dirt & bags out.

Place the new bags.
This year's soil was compressed.
I had to break it up to fine pieces before planting.

Hubby has problems getting up from being on the ground, so I was the 'ground crew'.
He fetched & carried plants to me, water & mulch.

First grave site went along good.

Second one seemed slower, sun on me.
Getting the old soil & bags out took both of us!

Some of the smaller plants appear to have rotted off.

Glad to get home..made an easy lunch.
Now we can relax.

This morning moved my summer camping, backpacking, fishing gear out of a closet and my winter ski gear in. In one of my winter gear pockets, found an MP3 player that had been missing a few months.

As a bro and I will enjoy some Pacific rocky shore fishing tomorrow on the holiday, got all my gear out I'll start packing into a daypack and the Forester. Noticed my $54 California 2023 fishing license I used only one time last year and caught and ate just one trout with expired a month ago. So bought a 2024 license for $61.

Had a short walk this morning. The wind nearly took me away. On Sunday afternoons, DH & I usually walk along a river path. Will have to evaluate the situation today. If it‘s still windy, we have to avoid that area. Some of the decadent trees have come down or lost branches. I don’t want them landing on us.

...so would I....the problem is that they still take payment for the NHS out of everybody's salaries...and have done since the 1940's.. people pay dearly for this 'Free'' service... and people like me have paid for over 60 years..yet not getting the service

It's hours yet until dark o'clock and the firefly show :(

Dang! It's hotter than hot, 91 with a feels-like temp of 96. I'll have to get started early tomorrow morning. Forecast calls for thunderstorms and heavy rain as early as 5am. Wanna bet it doesn't happen?

I forgot to tell y'all that I was gonna blue my hair this morning. The kind of color masque I'd been using for years was discontinued so I used new one recommended to me by a customer who also has blue hair. Um. It turned purple. Yup. Purple. It's fugly, and I hate it. DD and DGD say it's pretty, but I think not. I mean, I don't even like blue except for my hair.

Ok, then. I knew there was a poem about purple. I still don't like my purple hair.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Pretty sure I knew somebody who belonged to that club.
