Is this a problem? Communist China buying farmland in the United States?

The Chinese aren't buying up farmland outright, they are investing in US farmland production. They invest to earn money, not food. The US prohibits Chinese corporations that are tied to the Chinese military from investing in any US business.

The 2 problems there are that the US agencies that are supposed to vet Chinese investors don't always do a thorough job, and Chinese investors are very good at hiding ties to the PLA. Plus, we all know that directors of US agencies are corruptible and Chinese businessmen can afford to grease palms generously.

That said, like I posted way earlier, I doubt the CCP (as we know it) will survive another 5 years. Maybe 10 at the most.

There's internal conflict between the "prince-lings" and Xi, extreme conflict between the 2 political factions of the top CCP officials, dissatisfaction between the PLA generals and Xi, and the Chinese people themselves are extremely dissatisfied with the CCP and Xi and the prince-lings, and they're getting more and more bold about it.

Is China really buying up U.S. farmland? Here’s what we found (2023) (VIDEO)

"State and federal lawmakers are pushing to regulate foreign ownership of U.S. real estate because of fears that Chinese entities are creating a national security risk by amassing swaths of U.S. farmland, some of it near sensitive sites."

"A review by NBC News of thousands of documents filed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, however, shows very few purchases by Chinese buyers in the past year and a half — fewer than 1,400 acres in a country with 1.3 billion acres of agricultural land. In fact, the total amount of U.S. agricultural land owned by Chinese interests is less than three-hundredths of 1%."

"But the review also reveals a federal oversight system in which reporting of foreign ownership is lax and enforcement minimal." READ MORE

On topic ..... I do not like the thought of any country "owning" part of this country. Particularly a communist country.

Off topic, indeed GAER was a nice person. We PM'd each other a few times, and yes I miss her thoughts & words.

I know this is off topic.
I know Gaer had passed. And when I saw her avatar, I thought I might be mistaken about her passing. But then it dawned on me this was a thread she made a while ago. I never met Gaer, but she seemed like a nice lady, and I miss her posts.
It's not really off topic... it's her thread and another of hers came to the top a few days ago. Every time I see her avatar, it's an intake of breath, but... I also realize that someone cleaning up her things like her children may come across us and say something. I miss her, too.

Maybe their spies need retirement areas to foster / train young spies.
Let's just let em tunnel in wherever they want and use their plies.

Gates "leased" it all back to the farmers that owned it. His thought is to keep that land from being turned into "not farmland". I applaud his wise investment into our future food supply.

I really don't trust much of anything that Bill Gates does. Kind of one of those things where I feel the need to watch closely what both hands are doing.

You Know did the killing and kidnapping go up in Africa when BG moved in there giving away stuff ?
Sure, China and Russia was there too.

Again, I’ll ask this question. Is it ok for the US to own parts of other countries?
