The Rules:
Both agreed to. They include:
  • No live audience, which means there will be no applause or boos that could derail the conversation.
  • Muted microphones when it’s not their turn to speak.
  • No prewritten notes are allowed.
  • The only props they’re permitted to have at the lectern are a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water.
  • They will stand behind their lecterns the entire time, limiting their mobility — with Biden on the right and Trump on the left.
  • There will be no opening statements from either candidate.
  • Trump will get the final word during closing statements, as determined recently by a coin flip. Biden-Trump presidential debate: Tonight's start time, channels, rules as candidates face off with no audience and muted mics

Rules from debate to debate have never been fixed, but they used to be more useful and meaningful in understanding the candidates and their positions.

This was the last one I attended in person. Imagine that? They were once open to the general public!

And are you assuming that they will both adhere to the rules?

Most likely they will mind slip heading to the Bathroom and try to think of something.

I feel your pain, Beezer. But can you blame the 350 million minus 2 for not wanting the job? They, and their entire families, are destroyed by slanderous defamation by the media and many more. Right now we are closer to WWIII than ever, so we all have to make ourselves care about this and take it all very seriously...and vote

I absolutely cannot stand people talking over each other!

I become enraged when people won't stop yammering when they are told to stop talking!

For these reasons I will not be watching; I do not wish to explode.
They are cutting off the other candidates mike while one is speaking. Too bad I would like to see the free for all.

All rules implemented are at the request of one candidate
All questions by CNN moderators (picked by one candidate) will be geared to enhance and feature one candidate
"Debate" questions may have already been leaked/given by CNN to one candidate, as they have in past debates
Be prepared to hear hoaxes perpetuated by one candidate and widespread on MSM ... later to be fully debunked after the fact

Yes, even I, living in Australia, am familiar with the rules of this debate. I am very surprised that so many Seniors are so disinterested in this opportunity to assess both candidates speaking together on the same platform.

I have already set the VCR to record this event so that I can judge for myself the worthiness of each candidate for the position of POTUS.

Americans sometimes refer to the POTUS as the leader of the free world. If this were true I would be entitled to a vote but it is true that presidential elections for the USA leader can have serious flow on effects for allies such as Australia.

Given the power that POTUS has to appoint other leaders such as judges and for the military , and to dismiss them, the outcome of the coming elections is very consequential, not just for US, but also for citizens of other countries.

Please choose wisely.

It matters little to American citizens who is the Prime Minister of Australia but the choice of POTUS does matter to us, here downunder. It is truly a big deal.

Observing from up here in Toronto, my reaction was similar to that of Beezer. This is the best you have ? A choice between sleepy, or maniacal ? This past week here in Toronto, a Federal by election was held to fill a Parliamentary seat that was left vacant by the resignation of that Member of Parliament.

Get this, there were eighty seven candidates on the ballot for that one seat. That group included the FIVE main stream parties who already have Members in the House, plus a few dozen independent individuals. The Conservative Party of Canada won the riding, after it had been held by the Liberals for 26 years. This is a strong indication that in the next national election in 2025, the current Liberal Government will be voted out, and the Conservatives will have a majority of the 341 seats in our Federal Parliament. Politics in Canada is not the blood sport that it is in the USA, but at the very least we have multiple parties to choose from. JIMB.

CNN has even blocked direct observance of the debate from the press pool. Why is that?
Maybe so with delayed broadcast, CNN can edit anything they chose they don't want the public or press to see or hear?
And don't believe your lying eyes if you witness a cognitive decline of either candidate ... it's a cheap fake

Think about this. CNN is the network with the worst ratings primarily due to on air personalities that the listeners are turning off, and yet they are going to give us fair and unbiased debate. I doubt it seriously. It may finally be the death of a network that simply hasn't been declared dead.

Don't see the point.
It doesn't matter what people say. It matters what they actually do.
We've had both as presidents, so there's plenty of results to draw from.

It's only willful blindness that keeps so many from honestly accepting the record.
Bluster, B.S., outright lies, and half-truths don't cut it with me.
If I want to watch a spectacle, there's always Jerry Springer.

No, I'd just as soon take a swig of ipecac syrup.

I might watch the after debate analysis though.
