Fire in Northern California. Butte County. No Containment.

Huzz has an aunt, a cousin, and the cousin’s wife all living in Oroville. He talked to the cousin earlier today and Cuzz said he thought they’d be ok, since the fire probably wouldn’t cross the river but it did later. I hate fire.
I don't blame you, BC had some gawdawful fires a couple of years ago. We are feeling a bit more hopeful this year , there is no snow pack but we have had some rain.

These fire terrify me. So many and more often now.

That’s a sizeable river that the fire jumped. Wishing them safety and a return to a standing home.

Some years ago my mother visited WA the year after we'd had a bushfire locally. She said that the blackened trees sprouting new growth reminded her of Hiroshima. Hiroshima was out of bounds to the army of occupation but that didn't stop them checking it out.

I am very familiar with the area.
The problem with large fires around residential areas is the first priority is getting people evacuated and dealing with safety, because many don't want to leave their homes, and the firefighters have to keep rescuing them. Meanwhile the fire grows. Add to this, the weather conditions. It's going to be around 110 degrees for the next 5 days there, and over 100 for the next 10 days. Firefighters become exhausted carrying around gear, and it's tough to function.

Oh no I'm so sorry. Kelly Ridge has not gone yet but it's only miles away. No containment yet.

Oh thank you so much as I was worried.
It's over 100 degrees there for a week, so hopefully she will find ways to avoid being out in it too much. Most people who live in hot summer climates have learned how to take care of themselves, but it never hurts to check on them in case the AC decides to give up and they can't afford to have it fixed or get a new one.

That "O" is for Oroville High School. It was erected by the school's senior class back in the 80s.
It was occasionally changed from "O" to "LP" by Las Plumas High School seniors, prior to their rival football games.

This is were the fire is now heading, northeast of Oroville, where my sons' close friend of 40+ years lives....

Thanks Remy. I think about all those people living in the Kelly Ridge area and that nice lake view they’ve got but am glad no one we know lives there, those poor people.
A former co-worker, I'm not in contact with, lives there. She is retired and an older man I knew had a lake view home. I don't know if he'd be alive anymore. A bit better news this morning. Slight containment. At least last I was watching at 5am. Haven't checked since.

Every year it seems. California and Australia. You have to hope both the Americans and Australians find a way to survive. Of course, Australia has it's summer at a different time of the year. But the hot weather spells trouble for both.
