OK, you'll likely not answer, because it seems you all think you're above doing that but.

Why have the three most recent threads been closed ? They were not about politics, yes maybe some political names dropped/mentioned , but no issues brought up.

Are we only permitted to discuss blue skies & pretty flowers ???

It is getting ridiculous , these issues are of interest to many of us, and in many cases affect all of us. Yet we cannot even discuss them here with people that we are comfortable with , and may in-fact respect the opinions of.

Yeah I know, I'll likely be thrown off for another month ...... for speaking up about it.

I'm getting to the point where I really don't care.
 

I am so grateful to @Matrix for removing a particular post on the abortion thread. This post caused severe anger and disgust in me for what was said. Now that it is permanently gone, I feel I can forgive and forget.

I never thought I would write a post like this so there you go. Matrix, you showed great wisdom here, IMO. Thank you.

I feel the same since I had two threads closed in a day. Nothing to say anymore, and really, there was no serious misbehaving. I think America is just hopelessly divided. It's sad. :confused:
 

I'm quite pleased there is nothing contentious (that I've come across so far) politics related because sometimes even the tiniest viewpoint can grow until a full blown argument erupts and nasty comments can be made....I've been there. I'm a member of a couple of political UK based FB groups and that's enough for me.

What I do not understand is .... If a person knows or suspects that they will become upset discussing something. Or may even be insulted by the topic. ..... why would they even open the thread in the first place ? And if a thread becomes contentious too them, move away from the thread, and move on . Why prevent / deny the rest of us, from discussing what we feel is important , and most of us can discuss in a civil manner ?

OK, so if "they" try to push the envelope , or "they" take the mile .... let them, just move on from that thread. Why aggravate yourself ? and why deprive others ?

I understand that but ..... there are folks here that I have come to admire, and I respect their opinion on subjects, political & otherwise . Are all those folks going to go to the forums you note ?

Also, be careful what you wish for. If all of us interested in politics go there, and find a home, what happens to this place ?

And, some of the threads I noted, were not political at all.

True enough. So why do people keep opening thread after thread of a politically sensitive nature extolling one side? Then when the centrists and other side counter the crap with facts all hell breaks loose?

For a "non-political" forum there is a clear and consistent bias. Even when outlandish claims are thoroughly debunked they try to bury the fact by repeating the same vacuous mantras.

Private messaging does not expose the subject in a manner that is shared. i.e. private. So IYO, it is more reasonable to ask someone to private message all those that might be interested , as opposed to just asking those not interested to not open the thread ?
 
The trouble starts when someone feels offended by a reply. Then instead of staying on the topic, they attack the messenger. The subject is usually political in nature, but I have seen it happen about other subjects. When we are upset it is harder to be objective, then we revert to personal swipes and insults for some reason. They never contribute to the discussion, and I wonder why people revert to the personal cheer leading or ridicule.?
