A question for the admins

I'm not familiar with the recent threads referenced, I guess because I have not been checking in as often, and that is probably due to the fact that I am becoming bored with "blue skies & pretty flowers".
 

I saw the one thread about abortion, I read the posts until it was removed. That thread could have been discussed without mentioning political platforms. But political platforms were introduced. IMO once that happened it was political.

I didn't offer an opinion on that topic, just read the opinions out of interest as to what others thought.

I find this forum to be far far away from "just blue skies and pretty flowers". There are a lot of intelligent and serious threads where we learn and grow from one another, enjoy debating, find enjoyable, laugh, cry, search our minds hearts and souls...and are challenged. Look for it. And just walk past what bores you.

The OP is on a short lease because of his own record of pushing vague content boundaries and dislike for stated board content limitations. He did so again and was spanked, and aware it was his own post. Obviously from responses, his view is that of a board minority, that won't change regardless of whining, especially with elections coming. We can expect all this will heat up in coming months with some "New Members" arriving we can give deserved pain to likewise by duct taping their mouths.

Thanks for your opinion. Mine still suites me better.
 
A few posters get triggered by certain remarks and choose to retaliate. Many do not – they just read what is there, and move on. If posters were able to stay respectful discussing politics, then there would be no problem, however ego always slides in and wants to prove who is correct and before you know it, the whole thing turns ugly. I can certainly understand the rule of no politics – best avoid contentious topics altogether.
 
So much of our lives is dependent on political decisions especially as we age. It is hard to know exactly where the line is between acceptable and political comments. I, for one would like to see the rules again and I'm not savvy enough to know where to find them.

I guess the trouble starts when "social issues" slide into "politics." Abortion is a social issue and I was enjoying the debate, but it's easy to go from the issue itself, (wrong or right? when? etc) to voting on the issue, government control, crazy states (like my Ohio) and oops we're into politics.

Wow. That's a lot and it's pretty subjective, too. For example, I've seen lots of "rude" and "short sarcastic comments," directed at RGP over the years. I'm always glad he's here because without his, and a few important others, we would have no conservative voices and the forum would just be an echo chamber with lots of congratulatory back slapping and hearts.

Exactly! Those who choose to stay here should respect the guidelines set by @Matrix, the owner and Administrator. If he locks or removes a thread, it's for a good reason, and he need not offer any explanations or excuses to anyone who challenges him. Plenty of political forums on the internet if you need to vent your rage.

It sure would help if we knew why threads were closed. I'm usually off the forum by about 7 pm and when I come back the next morning, like I did today, ready to continue my hyperbole contest with @Alizerine ;) -- there was the closed thread and then this with people implying that something outrageous was said. I never see why threads are closed! I'll die wondering what Aunt Marg did.

It must feel great to discuss politics when other members can't argue back because they abide by the rules.

If you can't enjoy a forum without politics, go join a political forum; it's as simple as that.

Politics brings out the worst in people. If politics were allowed, you would find half of the members extremely stupid and totally unreasonable.

If you believe people can discuss politics in a civil manner, you're hopelessly naive. Just look at how divisive American politics is.

This is a small, peaceful place and an online home for seniors. Believe it or not, it's very important to many people. Don't try to ruin it with your boring and nasty politics. You insist on discussing politics on a no-politics forum because you don't care about the rules, which gives you an unfair advantage, but that's not something to be proud of.
 
And then there are those who will cleverly, snidely and blatantly bring politics into a discussion and then typically deflect, deny and cast shade on those who call them out. And we know who you are.

I have been drawn into responses as rebuttal in the past but will simply report such incidences going forward while being more mindful of forum rules.

You need to stop snidely and blatantly bringing politics into discussions as you then typically deflect, deny and cast shade on those who call you out, bud. I will report you each and every time going forward. Oh wait, you don't do that. Never mind.
