Someone must know what song this is

I've always thought that it was Mary Chapin Carpenter it sounded like her and sounded like something she would sing, it's sad and it's sweet about someone gone and someone left behind. The one singing is telling her ex " I'm not going to forget you, but, I'm going to leave you alone". I was busy when I heard it and couldn't get to the computer to see who it was, but that line has stuck with me for years now. I played through her discography, but no dice I plugged that line into Google, and no luck it has made me wonder if maybe I imagined the whole episode. Does anyone know what this earworm is? Maybe somebody with strong Google-fu can find it.

You want us to guess what song you were listening to?

My first thought was Walkaway Joe by Trisha Yearwood because I often confuse her with Mary Chapin Carpenter. That song is a sad song but no lyrics like the ones you mentioned.

Have you tried using the Google App on your phone or tablet to search for the song by humming and singing the portion you remember?

Use the Google app to name a song

  1. On your Android device, open the Google app
    Google Search
    .
  2. In the search bar, tap Mic

    and then
    Search a song.
  3. Play a song or hum, whistle, or sing the melody of a song.

I typically only remember a snatch of the words but I can hum a bit of the melody before and/or after those lyrics.
