A thunderstorm went through the city this morning around 5:30,went back to sleep for about 20 min
The rain stopped had stopped when I walked around the apt complex at 6:45,temp was 74, but was refreshing without the humidity
Today, I'm having lunch with our church pastor,Todd's wife,Linda They came to Buffalo 3 yrs ago, both are down to earth, warm, refreshing change from our previous pastor&his wife.I liked both of them from day 1 Our congregation has never had a senior pastor who's younger than most of the longtime members, he's 54. Two yrs ago I invited Linda to lunch to get to know her better,we just hit it off. She was thrilled to get invite, will show her my new apt, this is the highlight of my day

Yesterday was a bit smokey, though thankfully the breezes were most often blowing the smoke in other directions. Temp got up to 95F (35C). Worked outside in the morning. A technician from our wifi server company came... did tests, and sold us a new (and very heavy-duty) router. It's essential to be reliably connected to internet while the fires are a big local factor.

At 2:30 we headed to a close friend's birthday party in a park, in the modest city that's 50-minutes drive to the southeast. Wasn't smokey there 😄 and it was truly fun, with great potluck food. A wonderful break from the nagging requirement to prepare for a possible evacuation order coming our way.

Last day of heat today before things are expected to cool down by 10 to 15 deg. F on into the new week. August is expected to be cooler than average most days in general.

Small but intense storms last night, lots of very loud thunder and heavy downpours at times. So it'll be a muggy one today with the ground so wet I'll have to wait on trimming.

Very warm & humid...STILL no rain or the fore-casted storms..

I'm just waiting for my Gas boiler engineer to arrive for my annual inspection....

Ater he's been I'll make a start on clearing out the shed...
Oh! thanks for the reminder. I usually book our engineer for September, just before the colder weather creeps in although, with our current climate, we might all be basking in the sun and flaunting our bits and pieces until December!

I hope everyone is enjoying this hot and humid weather and taking the opportunity to air everything off before we all disappear beneath winter coats, scarfs and hats :)

Though I long ago left behind a M-F work schedule, Fridays still give me a bit of a thrill, so wishing you all a Happy Friday, August 2nd!

Getting ready for an early morning swim and will set up Roomba in the bedroom while I'm larking about in the pool.

Today I might actually roam around the house with a duster and see what kind of progress I can make. It's been a while since I hit the more complicated areas.

Other than that, my list is limited to a little invoicing and a quick library visit. It looks to be an easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy day, though one that will top out at 100° so an indoor AC day, for sure.

At present, our daytime temperatures are always over one hundred degrees. The coolest time of the days are at sunrise, and
that's when I go hiking with my pups. I also go walking a second time after sunset; but in the dark, I only walk around the
block where I know all of my neighbors.

The last picture is a homeless encampment with an *open fire* that I passed on my morning walk. It's dangerous, but
I didn't dare saying anything. I only crossed my fingers. Apparently, California has currently 22 wild fires burning. Look at
the map that pops up at California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection | CAL FIRE

BTW, these are the first pictures with my new Canon "PowerShot Elph 360 HS" camera that arrived last night. It fits into my
back pocket and gives halfway decent pictures. It's convenient.

While I went hiking with my pups; my older daughter, home on vacation, is cleaning up the garden. I have the
impression that she actually enjoys doing it. She certainly didn't used to be happy when I asked her to help me when
she was younger. Perhaps the difference is that now she does it on her own rather than being told to do it, LOL

Time to ask my son-in-law to start shredding the garden trash. He bought me a $2,500 shredder that he is now
using. At my age comes the wisdom that I just can't do things longer I used to do when I was younger. Three days
ago, I had a DEXA bone density test. Today my doctor's nurse called me that I am at an increased risk of a fracture
if I fall. She scheduled for me an appointment with a specialist. Next week, I also have my semi-annual
appointment with a dermatologist checking for skin cancer.

The weeds are gone; my daughter did a great job. And the pups love watching us working from a safe distance.

@PeppermintPatty
The top photos are Elephant Ears that grow over an area where water seeps out of the ground and feeds the pond.
They are real. Just look at my daughter, and look at her in the second picture. And our Canna Flowers from Hawaii
are almost as tall. Give some tropical plants plenty of hot sunshine and water, and they will explode.

Not a bad day today. Started with the small Tai Chi group that I lead in the local park on Friday mornings. Good productive session. There will be sore legs tomorrow 😇

This afternoon I had a walk down the prom and jetty taking pix with the big wildlife lens. Some really nice photos of Starlings on the rocks. They're lovely looking birds when you get some light on them!

Cool front coming!!

It's supposed to get to 99F (37C) today, but the smoke in the air may reduce that at our house and ground level on our property. We've got a hired helper today, who often comes one day a week. A real boon for a couple in our 70s on a place like ours in the countryside. I'm just taking a break now after four hours of productivity.

There are around 300 firefighters working valiantly & hard on several nearby fires, with a lot of equipment (chainsaws, earth movers, helicopters, water-bomber planes). So far the main fires have been kept maybe 7 miles (11km) from our place. We're not in too bad a position if winds don't blow fire southeast.

Well very hot and humid today.

Boiler engineer came , checked it all.. all was fine...

I bought some outdoor wood paint, from Amazon. I wouldn't usually buy it online but this once I did, and I got a different albeit well known brand than I usually get .. and soon after it arrived today, I opened the can and found what looked like a tin of lumpy oatmeal. The paint had gone bad...

IMG-5629.jpg
..I had to call Amazon CS..get my money refunded and go out to the Big Box Hardware store .. and buy new paint.

I hadn't had any intentions of going out today.. and I had to go to 2 different towns, because the colour I wanted wasn't in stock in some of them...

Anyway it's lucky that paint was bad because it's not the colour I thought it was, so I was able to get the proper colour by going to the store.

79F, light rain & thunder. Humid as a hot shower in Hades.

I got out early for some groceries. Picked up 2 plain doughnuts which I never buy so I don't know what got into me. Of course some cookies.

I made a toasted sesame seed bagel with cream cheese, scallions and thin, smoked salmon. What a treat! Then, a doughnut. I am stuffed.

Grabbed a piece of top round steak marked down as today is the sell-by date. I ground it well in the food processor and Doggie had a wonderful meal of it, along with a side of pumpkin puree. The rest of the beef is in the fridge for tomorrow. She's a happy pup.

Your first photo looks photoshopped. Lol
The big plants look like little plants with a person walking through them. I know theyre not be they sure look it. Nice photos packleader

Hot🥵

Lots got done in the garden this morning, but the flower seeds haven't sprouted yet;) Maybe tomorrow. I liked the idea of starting new flowers so much that I bought more seeds.

Went with DD/DGD to Publix this morning, then here, then there, then finally home. We left at 9:30 and got home at noon. Why? I ask myself why every time I get suckered into going along! As if the morning excursion wasn't enough punishment, I went along again this afternoon but only because I wanted to get flower seeds. We left home at 1:30 and just got home.

Tomorrow I'm gonna plant the flower seeds and rake up more of the fescue that fell victim to fungus and spread more Bermuda seed (she said with optimism, believing that she has more stamina than good sense).

Tomorrow I'm going nowhere. Nowhere!

When did I have time to work?

Ken, where is it warmer: in Texas or California? But judging by your higher temperatures at night, you apparently have higher humidity levels that are more uncomfortable than our usual dry desert climate. I still remember living in summer 1965 in NYC without air-condition where I felt like laying all day long in a bathtub with ice cubes in it.

"One of the hottest and driest places on earth, Death Valley, recorded its hottest month ever in July. The average high temperature during the record-breaking month was a sweltering 121.9 degrees Fahrenheit, with the California park experiencing nine days at 125 degrees Fahrenheit or greater." Death Valley, the hottest place on Earth, recorded its most scorching month ever in July

Well, I already measured once 119.8 degrees in the shade at our place, but right now our temperature (Inland Empire, 45 minutes to drive from the ocean) is more like yours. In the high and low deserts further inland, it's generally 10 to 15 degrees higher than in our area although not this week.

119 degrees.JPGIMG_4713.JPG

The high desert (Mojave) is at about 3,000 to 4,000 feet altitude, while the low desert is pretty much at sea level

Lucky are those who bought houses within 5 miles of the ocean years ago; nowadays only millionaires can afford buying
there a house.
