Well... it's 9.40pm and it's 88 deg in my office room...

Normally I would steer clear of anywhere, where there might be crowds during school holidays.. but today it was set to be over 90 degrees, and I thought I would go to the Lido in West London... I knew there was 2 huge car parks there...and people are away on holidays .. so I thought it would be quite quiet.. Boy, was I wrong.. I;d forgotten about the WFH brigade.. who are in their millions in this country.. terrible really.. but it means that places that would traditionally be quiet on a mid-week day.. aren't because the WFH brigade are out working from the beach.. the pool... the shops.. the restaurants etc...

The 2 car parks were jammed solid.. so I couldn't park at all.. my car has no AC despite having it re-gassed twice... so It was like an oven in my car. I had the windows open of course, but there was loads of traffic hold-ups.. mega traffic everywhere, so i put the sat-nav on to try and guide me out of London another way.. but the drawback was that I couldn't hear it with the windows open..so I had to close them. I honestly thought I might Spontaneously Combust... 🥵

I drove over to a pub that I;ve been to before close to the Lido.. but it was closed on Mondays.. the guy there says '' go to our sister pub tell them Mohammed sent you and you'll get a discount''.. I thanked
IMG-5718.jpg
him but I didn't bother..because it was the opposite direction to going back home.

Anyway I finally stopped at a London suburb to get a cold drink.. I'd taken an iced bottle of water with me, but by now it was done..

I got the coke and a 1/2 of a watermelon had a little wander and looked in their local shops... then got back in the car to come home.

This Suburb ( Ruislip and Ickenham) it;s 28 ,miles from here and the traffic was so bad, that it took 2 hours to get home... in the HOT car.... 3 hours total sitting in the car... .god alone knows what the traffic is like on school days...
That was somewhere I used to go regularly when I lived in London many moons ago. It was never crowded. These days you can't go on the boating lake without crashing into someone.

Had doc appt. at 2pm today. They switched it to one. Now I will miss Young & Restless two days in a row, as I am going to see my son/grandson tomorrow. I have 'On Demand' so can catch up that way. Y&R important part of my silly day!

@hearlady Yup. You'll get sweet potatoes. I don't know if they'll be edible, but you'll get them.

So. I watered everything and thought about what to do next. Decided to do nothing because I don't feel like it. I want the garden to be pretty, but I'm tired of messing with it.

All those flower seeds I planted a couple of weeks ago need to be thinned. I don't feel like it.

The snapdragons might hang on for another week or so if only they'd be deadheaded. I don't feel like it.

There are weeds that need to be pulled. I don't feel like it.

Being bored is boring. I could do things, but I don't feel like it.

Made the mistake of reading the thread about others' experiences with cataract surgery. Now I'm freaked and thinking about not having it done.

It was the same when we lived there when DD was just a toddler... we used to go there often just so she could build sandcastles... but since then there's now 2 pubs an adventure playground there, and a little railway.. so it just gets mobbed...crazy...

I didn't go to the recycle centre today. I did empty my boot.. and put the seats down flat in readiness to load stuff in.but when I looked I really only have 2 things to go to the Tip... so instead..I'll search out more stuff if I can in the next day or 2.. and make it worth the trip...

It's really hot today again.. I decided to go and have my nails done. gels this time so they last a little bit longer...

I really think we're full up as a country now... more than full. usually during the 6 week school hols that is the time to get places when they have much less customers.. Nail salons etc.. but I had to go to 3 before I found one today that didn't have Queue waiting. ..and within 5 or 10 minutes of me being there.. a queue..formed.

I went to the pub garden afterwards for drink..and that was crowded too, with families and kids.... on a Monday !!...Unbelievable...

81 F now at almost 1 PM. May not seem like much, but we'd had several dry sunny days around 72 F so it feels hot.

Up on the ladder cleaning out more eavestroughs. I hate this chore more now than decades ago, dicey climbing high with nobody around these days. Just a few short runs left to do, but they are the highest and hardest to deal with since I need the longer and much heavier ladder to reach them.

@hollydolly said on the previous page, "Well... it's 9.40pm and it's 88 deg in my office room..."

Well, look at what's happen in America

https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/13/climate/us-cities-heating-up-fastest-dg/index.html
American cities are getting unbearably hot. These ones are roasting the most
"All of the country’s 50 most-populated cities all have gotten hotter over the past half century, and all but three are experiencing more “extremely hot” days above 95 degrees ....
"Summer this year has been punctuated by record-breaking temperatures, blackouts and train delays as tracks overheated, warped and threatened derailment. In one Arizona county, hundreds of people are believed to have died from heat-related causes. Paramedics in Phoenix now travel with body bags filled with ice in which to immerse people suffering heat exhaustion or heatstroke.....
"Over the long term, big cities in Texas, Arizona and inland California have been worst-hit, in terms of the rise in extremely hot days.
Of the 10 cities that recorded the biggest increase since the mid-70s, seven are in Texas." [But why in heck are moving so many people and companies from California to Texas?]

Perhaps some 40 years ago, I still remember, our air condition kicked on in summer only late in the afternoon. For perhaps the last two months, our air condition kicked on already before noon, and the nights are also warmer than they used to be.

@hollydolly Um. Today is Tuesday. All day. I think.
that's even worse... a Tuesday.... nobody can say they're having a long weekend off..

As the garden waste gets emptied in the morning.. despite there being no rain for ages, I whipped the mower over the front lawn, and as I was trimming the hedge.. a bloke stopped with his wife and kiddie and asked if I wanted a hand.. he said he was a gardener..and would do my hedge for me for £10... .. he just had to drop his wife and child off, and he would be back. Well he was gone quite a time so I just continued cutting the hedge. He eventually came back.. and he gave me his brochure.. and asked if I needed anything else doing.

I showed him my Big Laurel hedge..in the back... and he said he would come at the weekend, and cut it right down to the height I want it.. he has a chipper so he can get rid of all the cuttings at the same time .. and he's also going to cut down a lot of the trees nearer the house which I struggle to cut because they're so high and they often grow against the house.. so he's going to cut all those down to whatever height I want them to be..and a very good price too...

Just came from pain doc, got 2 cortisone shots, one each shoulder and I feel so much better I can't believe it. Hope it lasts. Left shoulder in such pain when I've been waking up lately that today I thought I'd start crying, and I have developed a pretty high pain threshold.

it says the sim is not connecting,,will get 02 to sort it
My old phone was doing that. Whenever I tried to get help at the phone place all they did was try to get me to upgrade. I put up with it until I felt I got my money's worth. That was the worst phone I've had. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime.
I still like Samsung though. The replacement has been the best one I've had.

Our reprieve continues into today... less smoke, very little wind. Also as to weather, the "heat dome" has passed, but we've got high humidity. I spent the morning picking berries and managed to get sweaty rototilling the big veggie garden. Our plan is one more load to the storage unit, tomorrow. If and when the fires take a turn and we get an evacuation notice, then we'll load up our two vehicles and head to the home of our friends who have welcomed us. Thank goodness for friends.☺️

I'm surprised that the cortisone worked immediately because it usually takes about 2 weeks to work. Are you sure it's not just the numbing agent that's giving you relief ?

Cleaned up some of the attic. We may be done with Barbies.
Those could be worth a pretty penny. Hope you can sell them.

Don’t pay attention to the people with problems. They go online to write because things are bad. The majority are smooth sailing. If you don’t have it, you’ll be blind.

Today we made ‘sweet cucumber relish.’
We have been growing vegetables and had an abundance of cucumbers so today we decided to make some relish out of some of them. It turned out really good. We got 5 - 1/2 litre jars or 500 millilitres. We’ll probably make some more in a few days. It has ACV in it as well as turmeric in it so is extra healthy. IMG_5498.jpeg
