Death. A question for you.

If I ever get to the point where I can no longer enjoy life, I'd like to be able to end it. And I don't want to go in some beautiful, scenic place where it would be painful to leave. I want to go in a hospital, which would be an environment where dying would be preferable to being on life support with people checking up on me every two hours. That would be hell.

First, shoot me up with methadone so I'm a little out of it and feeling no pain. Then the doctor asks me if I'm ready. I say "yes," and she (I'd prefer a woman doctor for this) shoots me up with something that puts me to sleep, and then something to stop my heart. That's how my dog left the world and it seemed like a peaceful way to go.

Then dump me in the woods of Kentucky where the vultures could eat my body.

Talking of death leads me into the possibility of there being a ''Heaven''.

I think most of us have heard stories from people who have 'died and gone to heaven''... and again most dismiss their stories as the effect of medication or an attack on the Brain while the person is losing or lost consciousness..

Today a Harvard Qualified Brain Surgeon.. has written his own experience of ''going to heaven''.. when he 'died''. while suffering a rare form of meningitis which was a certain killer..

This is very worth reading.. if you can't read it due to a paywall.. and wish to..let me know and I'll copy the text and PM you with it...or paste it in a new thread..

That would be lovely but leave it to hospitals and doctors to ruin the experience. Exit meds might be a better way if they would just legalize them.
You're right, Chic. Assisted suicide is legal here in Hawaii but you have to jump so many hoops that you wish you could die already.o_O

This isn''t meant to be weird or creepy in any way but when you envisage death, dying, your final illness/moments, how do you see yourself dying? Will you fade away bit by bit over a period of years? Will you be dying peacefully in a hospital with family all around you? Will you die hard and fast? The victim of an accident or adventure? Will you live to be very old and revered by those who know you after a lifetime of service to your community? I think we have some idea of our personalities and inclinations. So we will know if we are fighters or not.

I believe I will either die hard and very slow. By inches if life gets harder and my spirit gives it up. So I will die of despair or I will go down swinging and die hard and fast in a hurricane, an avalanche, or (my favorite) a yachting accident.

How do you see it for yourself? Will you be sick for years or die suddenly.

The answer, which may be flippant, is, I don't. I don't envision death. Death is coming for us all, no matter our beliefs, our actions, or our thoughts. Our end is inevitable. There is no benefit to imagining our end, it'll come soon enough, and when it does, it's non-nonnegotiable. We cease to be.

Here's a little blurb about the author...
While practicing medicine in Lynchburg at the Lynchburg General Hospital, Alexander was reprimanded by the Virginia Board of Medicine for performing surgery incorrectly. In 2007, twice within a month, he operated on the wrong segment of patients’ spinal column. In one of the cases, Alexander did not initially reveal his mistake as he believed the surgery had been beneficial; even though it wasn't the intended operation. He was sued by the patient for damages totalling $3 million in August 2008. The case was dismissed by the plaintiff in 2009 without comment from an attorney. Due to these mistakes, Alexander temporarily lost his privileges at the hospital and was forced to pay a $3,500 fine to the Virginia Board of Medicine.

That said, what Alexander calls "heaven" is just what happens when the brain malfunctions, much like seeing a light in the distance.

except as a Brain surgeon, he was told by his colleagues that while he was in his Coma, there was no Brain activity... essentially he was dead..

It would seem the Lord takes the best of us early and quickly, leaving the rest of us turds to suffer it out for a long - long time. Lol
