This topic about canned hams reminds me back to my youth working in a grocery store. In those days it was very common to see those 5 pound canned hams. I remember they sold a lot of them. My parents used to buy them but I don't remember how they prepared them. Now a days you can't find canned ham in some stores and if they have them they are usually those small 1 pound size cans.
We occasionally buy a bone in ham to bake and freeze the leftover to use in my split pea soup recipe. But when I don't have any in the freezer I have been known to buy one of those 1 pound canned hams to substitute.
