Election Day at last in America…

I put my ballot in a drop box on the way to the Senior Center yesterday, then sat in the lobby and chatted
for a couple of hours, and came home. I usually play the piano a bit but didn't have time to do that yesterday.

Today I'm doing to call and find out why my car insurance is going up by nearly 50%, when I hardly drive at all.
Then I need to pay the property tax, and work on calculating the IRS capital gains prepayments for 2024 aargh.

It's always something. Fun, fun, fun. The first thing though is my usual exercise this morning.
Regardless of what happens, I live my own life, and do my best to enjoy my life, in the manner that I wish to do.

Have a lovely day everyone. :)

IMO, when choosing a leader, the things that should matter most is integrity, honesty, character, empathy and compassion, active listening, respect for others, accountability, ability to work with others, communication skills, and wisdom.

It's disturbing to me to see that so many of those qualities are eclipsed by loyalty. That can be a costly mistake.
You left out 'intelligence'.

I'd like for the leader to be the smartest person in the room, or at least in the top 10%. I think we had that with JFK and probably Eisenhower. They also had the rest of the attributes you mentioned as well as intellectual curiosity.

Well, those were just my preferences, as I don't place a lot of value on intelligence. Even psychopaths and criminals can be highly intelligent. I have personally seen many educated people who are fools IMO.

Again, just my preferences, but I will choose wisdom.

Yeah, that might be a better way to put it. I don't think you can be wise if you're not intelligent, but you can be intelligent in certain ways and not be wise.

Although I said I wouldn't, I did turn on the news twice today, just briefly, Basically, there is none yet. Just a lot of talking heads trying to find something to say about the election. I have a feeling there won't really be any news until maybe tomorrow, if then.

We will go vote after I get off work.
It's about a 30 mile drive if we cut across on the dirt roads, or 50 miles if we use 9 miles of gravel and the rest pavement.
We have always voted in person, and we will as long as we can. A lot of Nebraska counties have gone to mail-in only.
I'm conservative and I don't care who knows it, but I don't care who you vote for.
I don't understand some people who absolutely hate others based on who they vote for.
The division in the country is getting worse, and it falls at the feet of our politicians.

No one that has made it to to the top of the two party ticket for president has had those qualities in many, many years. Probably the last was Jimmy Carter but he was an ineffectual leader largely because he was so nice and surrounded himself with friends as advisors ...maybe wisdom was lacking there.

I voted third party for a candidate that I feel comes close to having these qualities in addition to a commitment to freedom of speech.

We were in and out in about 15 minutes. There were several people voting, but no lines, and the process went smooth. It will be interesting to see the results if the polls showing the POTUS race so close are correct. It may be a couple of days before all the numbers are in.

I live in Pennsylvania and I drove past the voting poll I usually go to and all was quiet. Too early or people just don't care. It doesn't matter to me. I have no skin in this game, but the kids, grandkids and any great grandkids we ever get may have a lot of skin this election.

We stopped at out breakfast diner to hear any rumblings, but it was even quiet at the restaurant. The food was good and the coffee was hot. That's what I was hoping for.
