Thankful you and Thelma are home and safe again. It was the right decision to stay in the hotel. I saw a lot of homes that were destroyed but fortunately none of my friends' as far as I know.
Pappy.. the frozen food as long as you didn't open the freezer while the electricity was off, should remain frozen for 48 hour in a full freezer...24 in a half full freezerBoy, what a hectic 3 days this week. We are so lucky that we had no damage from the monster hurricane. The west coast was hit the hardest but much damage was caused by tornados, a record number for Florida and one of the largest to ever hit. We had lots of rain and wind but very little damage in the park.
We stayed 3 nights at Suburban Hotel, about 15 minutes from our house. Stayed on the third floor and it was so quiet you’d never know there was a hurricane outside. We had pb and crackers, canned tuna, snacks and cookies and canned peaches. Nothing was open so we did the best we could.
Now the problem is the refrigerator and frozen food fit to eat. I’m thinking I’ll just toss it as the electricity was off for close to 30 hours.
Couple of pics of our home away from home.View attachment 373317View attachment 373318View attachment 373320
Thank you Holly. I opened a container of ice cream and it had thawed and refrozen. Didn’t dare take a chance. Threw it all out.Pappy.. the frozen food as long as you didn't open the freezer while the electricity was off, should remain frozen for 48 hour in a full freezer...24 in a half full freezer
Y'know @Pappy, my late uncle said the same thing about that movie!!! Said he ran all the way home after the matinee, This the silent movie from 1925.It’s funny how my mind works at times. Before I got up this morning I remembered this film.
1943-44. Mom took me to see Phantom of the Opera. I would have been 6 or 7 years old and I guess I should have stayed home. This film scared the bejesus out of me and messed up my nights for a time.
The part when his face is revealed did me in. Actually, it was pretty mild compared to today’s films. Here is the scene that I’ll never forget.
Scarred for life..Pappy.
Mom felt bad about taking me to see this movie. Next movie was Bambi..Y'know @Pappy, my late uncle said the same thing about that movie!!! Said he ran all the way home after the matinee, This the silent movie from 1925.

Hey, did you guys get your new stove? How is it?
Bambi! I cried buckets.Mom felt bad about taking me to see this movie. Next movie was Bambi..
No stove yet. Might replace old elements.
That new handyman might be a great help in thinning out the contents of the shed. Finally found a handyman to help with our projects. He fixed my clothes rack in my closet and will see if he can replace the oven element today. Funny thing is, he lives right here in the community.
Had to go up to Urgent care last Thursday to be treated for a urinary infection. Walked right in and I was the only one there. Yea me. He gave me cipro for the infection but it made me feel horrible so I’m going to take Bactrum, which I’ve used before.
Our neighbors are coming back on November 16th. Thelma enjoys being with Eileen who has been a great help with her dementia. Such a caring person.
Mostly getting all our groceries on line now. Instacart and Amazon are our main source of items. Once in awhile we order take out through Uber eats or Door dash but it’s very expensive to do this. Our favorite seems to be Panda Express.
Not much exciting around the Pappy household these days but things are good and we keep being positive. Have a good day…Pappy

well she must have seen what we see.. and that's a handsome man with a killer smile...Been fairly quiet in the Pappy household. Thelma had to stop taking her dementia meds as it made her feel terrible. She says she feels better now that she is off them. Ciprofloxacin does the same to me. Just can’t take it.
Going back a lot of years, one of my favorite stores was Woolworth’s department store. I usually got a hot dog and root beer but their hot beef sandwiches were to die for and huge portions. And look at the price of that banana split.
My birthday falls on Thanksgiving this year. 87. Doesn’t seem possible I’ve been retired for almost 26 years.
I stopped to get a coffee for Thelma yesterday and the girl asked me if I was eligible for senior discount..She must have bad eye sight because I certainly look my age. The cane and wrinkles should have been a clue.
So, nothing planned until the 20th when we get our toenails clipped. Thank God the election is over. The same commercials over and over again. Now it’s heath insurance yakking to bye their insurance.
Stay safe and well. Until next time…bye. Pappy
Was Smalleys theater the Colonia theater? Just a different name? Here’s a little something I wrote years ago for our hometown newspaper, the Norwich Sun. It has since changed to the Eve-Sun. There are more not but sure if anyone would be interested.
Well, we have taken back enough bottles to pay our way into Smalleys theater. It will cost us 14 cents for a great double feature. The main show is "Frontier Pony Express" starring Roy Rogers and the second show is an Abbott and Costello movie Called Africa Screams. If we wanted we could sit through a second showing, but the popcorn and candy was pretty well gone by then. I can remember coming out of the theater and being blinded by the sunlight. On the way home we would discuss what we had just seen and tried to imitate the actors. Ah yes, good times...simple times.....
Pappy
Smalleys was on East Main across from the post office. Colonia was where it always was. Smalleys showed a lot of lower class films and was less expensive than Colonia. I think I have some photos somewhere of Smalleys and Wii post them later. Was Smalleys theater the Colonia theater? Just a different name?
To the left, red awning, was a jewelry store where I bought my wife’s wedding ring. To the right was a greasy spoon diner.
