Notes from Pappy's diary

Long time ago I wrote some articles for the Norwich Sun, our local newspaper. This one was when I was 10 years old living on Gold street. I see at the bottom I wrote this in 2009. I have a few more and will post later. Hope you enjoy. Pappy

Boy does that bring back lots of memories. The same thing happened to me a lot! I would try to race through dinner so I could go out to the street to play some kind of game us kids had made up. "Slow down", or your gonna choke!" My parents would say. I tried, really tried, but never quite got it right. :)

Good memories Paco Dennis…

Right now it’s 81 degrees and a beautiful day. Rain coming from a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. Those poor folks certainly don’t need anymore rain.

Good news as far as my hand goes. It’s not shaking as much as it did. Still very sore in the thumb joint due to arthritis in the joint. I can use it more and more each day and can now make a fist. Two months ago, I couldn’t bend my fingers at all. Oh, and I put my wedding ring back on yesterday.

In back of my house, where the woods use to be..they are putting in sewers and water lines. Building will be next and we expect a lot of noise then.

We have gotten our flu shots and Covid shots will be next. We are undecided about the RSV shots. Yesterday we both got our toenails cut. We have this done at the medical central we have used for years.

I’ve got one bad nail on my big right foot toe. Shaped like a U and gets sore when being cut. Always donate a little blood too.

Not much excitment going on here. Hope to get a visit from one of our kids soon.
Living the dream..Pappy

I got the combined RSV/Tdap shot as a tetanus booster more than a whooping cough vaccine.

pappy, I have OA in my fingers as well.. and my thumb joint has become more and more painful. My neighbour who is in her late 80's has the same problem, and she advised me to get cortisone injections in the thumb joint. She says it give pain relief for 3 months. When I expressed dismay at only 3 months she said, that it akes a huge difference even in that short time, to be able to do things which are much more difficult when in pain.

have you considered it ?

Boy, what a hectic 3 days this week. We are so lucky that we had no damage from the monster hurricane. The west coast was hit the hardest but much damage was caused by tornados, a record number for Florida and one of the largest to ever hit. We had lots of rain and wind but very little damage in the park.

We stayed 3 nights at Suburban Hotel, about 15 minutes from our house. Stayed on the third floor and it was so quiet you’d never know there was a hurricane outside. We had pb and crackers, canned tuna, snacks and cookies and canned peaches. Nothing was open so we did the best we could.

Now the problem is the refrigerator and frozen food fit to eat. I’m thinking I’ll just toss it as the electricity was off for close to 30 hours.

So glad to know your home was not blown away, @Pappy. I can't imagine that your frozen food did not thaw, so better safe than sorry. You can claim the food loss on your insurance, but the deductible is probably higher. Check on it tho'.

Thanks for the pics... a peek into your room. What do I see on your monitor? A good ole Northeastern house! Maybe you guys should move back up here; somewhere protected from snow.

I see Spam was on your menu. Did you have a freezer with ice cream? You guys deserve a fabulous, hearty meal at a lovely restaurant after all this!

Glad your fine. Hope the homeplace is too. You could caption your second pic "When you really need the juice!" :)

Edit : Some repairs. OK. Just a little time and action. :)

The 3rd floor is a great place to be (hotel) Pappy …. you did good.

I’ve learned that living on the 3rd floor of an apartment building is not only quiet as can be, but I am oblivious to any bad weather outside, and even during Hurricane Beryl.
Sometimes I have to get dressed and go walk out to a landing in between buildings to figure out what is happening outside.
