Notes from Pappy's diary

So much been going on lately, mostly doctors appointments. Thelma and I are done with therapy thank heavens. She, being 84, did so well with her knee replacement. I just knew she would as she has survived cancer twice in her life. She comes from good stock. Farm life and 14 brothers and sisters.

We’ve dodged the hurricanes so far but there is a couple that could cause some problems. Keep your fingers crossed.

This has been one of the hottest springs and summer since we’ve been here. 90s and very humid. Just staying home and enjoying the A/C daily.

The woods behind us are gone and water and sewage pipes being installed as I write this. Lots of hammering coming soon. I understand they will be upscale condos which is a good thing.

September 26 I have a hand doctor appointment. Need to get rid of these hand tremors and aggravating sore thumb. I wear a brace most of the time and a pressure glove the rest of the time.

I think I mentioned the Thelma has mild to moderate dementia. She is taking a med that helps slow down the progression but there is no stopping the disease yet. I do help make sure she gets her meds in the right order. She forgot how to start the washing machine. I get it started for her and she takes over. I am making most of the meals and I don’t mind it at all. I just hope I don’t make her ill with my cooking..🤢

That’s enough info for one day. Promise I will do better in bringing this up to date more often.

Thanks for the update @Pappy .

That's a huge difference behind your house, but you seem ok with it. I'd be crying.

Sorry to find Thelma has some dementia. I bet you're a better cook than you think. May the hurricanes stay away from you!!

Gee, I hope your hand gets better!!!! 🌹

Ooooh Pappy... the woods.... I know how you feel because you may remember I said about half of our woodland had been destroyed to make way for houses, and now there are 400 houses on it. Thankfully we still have half the woodland.. but what a great pity!

We all have to learn to accept everything which happens to us including pain, impairment and even death. My wife is 85 and I am 89 and every day could bring bad news. We simply enjoy each day to the fullest and accept that everyone MUST die at some time. My favorite occupation is to be able to play the PC game, "Civilization VI," and get my mind off reality trying to conquer the world. My wife spends her day with our French Bulldog and both of us are happy.

After our housekeeper left yesterday, my lawn guy mowed and trimmed our palm trees. Yard looks so nice now. We have 4 big flower pots out front and all the plants have died. They are in the sun all day and we haven’t found a plant that will survive the heat. Maybe a cactus plant would work.

Did I mention that I had a bobcat sleeping on my A/C last week. He showed up on my Ring camera. I have 3 cameras set up which cover about every area of the outside.

As soon as I’m up and about again, I’m going to be cleaning out my work shop. Many items will be going to the curb for others to use and enjoy. I am going to sell my golf cart and I gave my neighbor an old mobile scooter I never used. So much stuff has accumulated over the past 25 years here.

Need to go online for my church Sunday service. Have a good day folks.

I wonder if the bobcat was displaced with all of the construction activity where the woods were located. 🤔

Stuff comes in so much easier than it goes out!!!

Have a great day, Pappy!

Rabbits, possum, raccoons and armadillos have been plentiful up to now but now the woods are gone, the bigger game is moving in.

Thelma and I decided to get out of the house and go for a ride. Ended up at Sebastian Park, about a 20 minute ride down A1A. Then we drove south for a couple miles and crossed over the river and headed back home on US 1. Only stopped long enough to take a couple photos.

Got home a few minutes ago. Wanted to stop and put our toes in the sand but car temp said 100 degrees and humidity was just to high.

4:30 pm. A very quiet day in the Pappy household. Right now we are having our afternoon pour down rain showers and lightning. Just about everyday we can have these hard rains.

We both did a lot of reading today. Just too darn hot to get any outside work done. TV hasn’t been on all day but will turn on for the news soon.

Put in a small grocery order for tomorrow morning. Also got a food order from Amazon. I have been ordering more from Amazon as they are a lot less expensive than our Publix.

I have a frozen Ziti in the oven now. Looks like we will eat about 5:30. Candied carrots as a side dish. Looks like moose tracks ice cream for dessert.

That’s our exciting day. Enjoy your evening.

Going through some old shoebox stuff yesterday, I had forgotten about this. The Universal Life church which I joined back in the 60s or 70s. Anyone looking to get married? Then I’m your man..😇😇
Lots of stuff in there I had forgotten about. A drum key, medals from when we belonged to a competition archery club, a photo of an old girl friend in high school, a worn out wedding ring that was worn so thin I had to replace it. Memories, I have so many. Photos of my ministry with ULC.

Bad hurricane north and west of us but we look okay. Tornados possible and some wind and lots of rain for us. In fact, it just started raining now. Maybe we could drop a prayer for anyone in its path.

Monday night, I got up to use the bathroom and when I came out, my wife was coming down our dark hall. I ask her where she was going and she said she can’t find Sassy. I explained to her that Sassy, our Shih-Tzu, died 12 years ago. She insisted that she should be in bed next to her. Spent 5 minutes trying to wake her up. She told me in the morning that her dream was so vivid to her. Scared the bejesus out of me. She is fine now.

Went to First Health yesterday and got new x-rays of my hand and wrist. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my hand doctor and hope to find out what’s going on.

Living the dream folks…Pappy.

Be safe in your stormy weather.

Since I’m doing a bit of reading on dementia/hallucinations, the most common suggestion seems to be to agree with what the person is saying and suggest you‘ll look after the problem later. Just keep them calm.

Hope the doctor has an answer for your hands tomorrow.

So true Jules. I’ve always been an impatient person and now I have to do a 180. I am also learning as I go.
