Notes from Pappy's diary

Hi Pappy, sorry that I am late hearing of your medical trials and hurdles. You and Thelma have been facing life together over these many years and this will continue over the days and months ahead! You are both in our prayers. "Be not dismayed, whate'er betide, God will take care of you!" I am speaking from experience. Jim

Theresa, our housekeeper is due anytime now. 8:45 am here right now. Feel sorry for her as the house work has been pretty lax around here. 1:00 am, tried to open my Tylenol bottle in the dark and spilled them all over the bedroom floor. 😬 What a mess in there. I’ll just tell her to vacuum them up as I have plenty.

Thelma’s PT guy was here Wednesday and told her he will see if he can so additional help for us. Don’t know what he meant because I was at doctors getting my new cast on. Looks like I’ll be in the darn thing for a few weeks. Luckily I didn’t need surgery.

Fixing meals has been the biggest problem. Too many frozen entrees are not my idea of a healthy diet but thank god they are available.
I like the picture I’ve enclosed. Pappy

When the doctor ask me what is your favorite color, the decision was easy. Just match my shirt doc. Blue has always been my favorite color.

My son left to go back to Maryland about 1:00 pm. The flight from Melbourne airport would take 2 hours less if it weren’t for 2 hour layover in North Carolina.

Thelma and I took a two hour nap after lunch today. Both of us were up early as I had to be at doctors by 8 am.
That’s all the excitement from Pappy’s house today.
Have a great rest of day folks. Pappy.

Making my co-pay and wearing my pretty blue cast.

I don’t think I mentioned this before but Tuesday Thelma had a final visit with her surgeon. A-ok on the knee. Anyway, I was helping her get into the car and set my phone on the roof of the car..😩.You guessed it, I drove off and when I got home I realized it wasn’t in the car. Went back to medical center and couldn’t find it.

At the advice of Apple support, I put it in lockdown so it can’t be opened. It only shows a number to call if found. This whole fiasco turned out to be a very expensive and aggravating experience. Ordered a new 15 pro max yesterday and should be here 3-5 days. My hope is that I can recoup my info.
Lesson learned. Pappy

As we age, Dave, one of our challenges is to keep our focus and work through our problems, with God's help. It is not always an easy job, but we can do it. Prayers go out to you and Thelma.❤️ - Jim
Thank you Jim. The good lord has definitely helped us. Both wife and I have some dementia which amplifies the problem.

Thelma had her PT at home and the therapist was very pleased at her progress. Right after he left, I went to my barber and got a great haircut. If he keeps raising prices I might have to shave my head..🙀
Had ravioli for supper. Fixed something easy as my wrist was very sore this afternoon. The cast should be coming off in two weeks. Looking forward to that.
National news is coming on so I’ll bid you all a good night…Pappy

All co-ordinated... even with the surgery office bear..... :D

I have applied for a few weeks of Meals on Wheels. Two dinners three times a week. Have called twice and both times I was told someone wood contact me. No calls or visits yet. I would appreciate what little help I can get because I’m one handed for awhile and wife still not completely healed from knee operation. Plus she has a bit of dementia and trouble remembering how to do things.

Has anyone had this service before or maybe delivered for them? I gave them all this info when I called them and was told they might be able to help. Sick of unhealthy frozen meals and soup.

Any and all advice appreciated. Pappy

I don't know what your zip code is so I put in Tampa to find their website. This is Q & A on their site so it might answer your questions.

"How can I receive a “Meals on Wheels” meal?

If you think you may be eligible to receive Meals On Wheels, or know someone who may benefit from this service, then please submit a Meal Service Application (Solicitud Para Servicio de Comidas) or call (813) 238-8410. Our Recipient Intake Coordinator will contact you within 5 business days to complete the application process. This process will take approximately 15 minutes. Our staff will request information such as name, address, phone number, health status, etc. We will also ask you to provide the name and phone number of a family member or friend whom we can contact if there is an emergency or we do not find you at home."

I did call them again and they said someone will contact me. Now, over a week ago. By the time, if they do, I’m contacted we will probably not need their services. Geez, I hate getting the run around.

Meanwhile..back at the ranch..😵‍💫
As I mentioned earlier that my cast came off Thursday. What a happy relief from my aching hand and fingers. To celebrate, we stopped and had a coffee and doughnut on the way home. I will need to wear a wrist strap for awhile but that’s fine.

Right now I’m charging my golf cart and rain is predicted all this weekend. It’s charging right out in front of my door so I can get to it fast if it rains.

Got to finish up my grocery order to be delivered Saturday. So I’ll wish you all a good day.
Pappy.

Tomorrow, Monday, is my semi-annual CT scan for a aortic anorism. Not too much to it but the dye they put in me makes me feel like I'm going to pee my pants. Oh, who cares. I'm pushing 77 and have a good excuse, right. I have been lucky that it hasn't enlarged over the years but aways get a little concerned waiting for results. If it reaches 5 centimeters, it means open heart surgery.
Pappy I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm. In the UK up to 5.4 cm is considered medium and they won't touch it. 5.5cm is when the 'large' category begins. Before covid I was a bout 3cm but after it had enlarged to 5.3cm....during that time I had issues with my health and it was found in 2022 that I had heart failure so I stopped smoking, severely cut down on alcohol and began exercising.

Last June it showed as 5.5cm, last November 5.3 and in March the same then in June it showed as 5.7cm (the operator tells me after she does the ultra sound scan), Got a letter from my consultant who is simply sending me for another scan in October. If possible they try to use keyhole surgery to insert a stent via the groin rather than open surgery.

Max..I have been scanned for years for the same thing. I’m fortunate that it hasn’t gotten larger over the years. Whatever they find, I wish you the best possible outcome. Keep me posted.

Time flies when you’re having fun..👀
PT guy is here for my wife. One more month and she is done with her therapy.
I guess I’m going to need therapy on my wrist. My VA doctor thinks I have a damaged nerve. My hand swells up and my fingers are numb. Always some darn thing.

Lawn mower guy is here and making a racket with those edgers and blowers. Looks great when he’s done.
May have some weather headed our way. Storm brewing over Atlantic and looks to be headed our way. Need to keep an eye on this one.

May take a ride over to the ocean later. It’s about a 15 minute drive and we haven’t been out much at all lately. Did go to Dennys for supper Saturday night.
That’s about all from Pappy’s house.

@Pappy sorry about the need for PT.

When the cast came off my wrist years ago, I could not touch my index finger to my thumb! But I had had surgery on that wrist...thank goodness you didn't.

I hope no storms come your way!

Thank you Rose. I’m elevating it and applying ice. I’ll give it a couple days then see about getting a nerve doctor.

My poor lawn guys are here trying to get the lawn done between down pours. Rain one minute, sunshine the next. 91 and humid out there. Hope they hydrate a lot. I’ve drank a gallon of water just watching them..😓

Thursday is my trim my toenails day. Never look forward to that as my big toenails love to grow like a big U shape. There will be blood involved.

Today, before the rains started, we went for hot dogs and milk shakes at Dels, used to be Dairy Queen years ago. We stayed in the car with the A/C running to eat our meal.

Thelma is doing great with her knee replacement. She’s walking all over the place with just a cane. My wrist, not so good. Need to go back to my doctor to find out why my fingers turn blue and numb. I’ll bet I had a nerve messed up from my fall. Still only using one hand. Miss both hands to do the simple things I can’t do now.

The latest picture enclose of my newest great grandson. Massimo Jack Mazzulla. Quite a title. Jack for short.1723057130699.jpeg

Well, it’s back Tuesday for more x-rays on my wrist and hand. Something is not right because hand is swollen, fingers numb and can’t make a fist. Nerve maybe, broken hand somewhere else or who knows? Just need the use of my hand back.

A beautiful morning here today. 83 degrees right now with a high of 93 later. Whites have been washed and are in the dryer. Will wash dark clothes later. My VA mobile scooter is being charged in my work shop. Got a few things done early because it will be much hotter later.

For the first time in months, I didn’t need a grocery order this week. Lots of food in fridge and have been ordering some items from Amazon. Many of their prices are cheaper than our Publix delivered. With everything going up, got to save where we can. Going to drop Spectrum's ridiculous prices for most channels we don’t watch. I just stream whatever we like to watch.

See you all later. Pappy
