If I haven’t told anyone lately, I sure hate winter. You wouldn’t believe the process I go through to head out the door for my two walks. Heavy shoes with a good tread, sweater, vest, puffer coat, crossbody purse, backpack, kleenex in pockets, very geeky hat, scarf around neck, and mitts. Soon I’ll be putting a heater in them. In the afternoons because it gets dark so early, I add a reflective strap. When I walk into a building my glasses steam up. I really hate winter and it’s not even really cold yet. Then I’ll be switching to heavier coats and boots and maybe using my walking poles. I hate winter.

My granddaughter AJ gifted me this tiny tree, so I’ve set it up in my room… one ornament from each of my kids and one from my own childhood

My youngest son made the angel at the top when he was 4 or 5. It always makes me laugh… his face looks like he’s had too much liquor-laced egg nog, haha

@Jules Do you have shoe chains? They work well on ice.

I'm back. I'm healthy. And...my blood pressure is actually better than normal. We can thank meds and having quit the bakery job. 122/66. Before I quit working, BP was almost always at least 135/80. That tells me something!

Think I'm gonna make chex mix this afternoon so I'll have some to take to DS/DSIL when I go there for lunch on Thursday, along with scratch-off lottery tickets and a few other small gifts. The big gift is the new fridge. It would have been difficult to wrap, and gift bags don't come that big ;)

Still to go today is DSIL's birthday dinner. I really don't wanna go but will. Restaurants are full of people. I don't wanna be around a buncha people.

Dishwasher repair or replace

A real DIY project yesterday. The spray bar for the bottom rack wore out allowing the bar to pop out of how it is attached. New comparable washer $679.00 repair parts $275.00. Or make a way to make it work.

Marked the bottom rack where it centers over the spray bar. Time to engineer a fix. Bought a tube of water weld $6.78, had some glass fish tank beads. Mixed the water weld, built a bridge across the spray bar with the glass bead facing the spray bar. Let the fix harden. End result the glass bead is about 1/16th of an inch above the bar.

The water pressure that popped the spray bar & pushed the bar up still does. The fix allows the bar to rotate like it's supposed to but the 1/16th gap doesn't allow the bar to pop out. The glass bead allowsthe bar to rotate. Fix works YAY.

Agreed, being outdoors during wet rainy or snowy windy weather will tend to be unpleasant regardless of how well warmly one is dressed.

But when merely cold, winter can be enjoyed outdoors if dressed appropriately. After new snowfalls landscapes may be quite wonderfully beautiful. As a thin person that easily becomes chilled and decades old snow skier, the one thing most people fall short on outdoors in cold is not covering up enough of their body areas. Oh sure, they are wearing huge heavy coats that keeps their core area warm enough if moving about but the head, hands, and feet are often inadequately covered. Layering clothing is the most flexible strategy that outdoor enthusiasts have long understood.

Head gear is the most often ignored and the one area most easily to feel uncomfortable if chilly. That is in part because in public settings many people for social reasons do not want to cover up their heads and faces. That is most evident watching working people in large downtown cities during noon lunch breaks rushing about outside. Despite heavy coats, almost none have any head gear, even hats, much less heavyweight balaclavas.

But you never had to worry about keeping war paint aka make up and hair immaculate:>)

Very good to know! I read the above to DH, who's a pretty handy fix-it guy. He didn't know about WaterWeld, but has used - and been happy with - other J-B Weld products.

Thanks for the tip!

Rained last night, but not freezing. Rain again tonight.

Put in a grocery order for delivery tomorrow. Delivery fee went up to $13.98!! It's been a long time since I've had delivery so I was surprised. That, plus tip....almost $20.

Carrying in bags has been bothering my back for some time now, so I'm treating myself.

Thawing homemade vegetable-beef soup for supper.

Well...6.15pm....been a pretty full day.. aside from all that shopping earlier in North London... I've defrosted the freezer in the kitchen..

... then I made a big batch of minced beef with veggies, and dumplings to freeze in portions..

I just had some for dinner.. and it was delicious as always.. however one of the reasons I decided to go shopping today and brave those crowds was because I needed fresh fruit, eggs and ..sausages... I always put sausages in the minced beef..( i won't call it stew because I hate stew)... so tonight while I was chopping the chestnut mushrooms, and the potatoes it just occurred to me that I forgot to get the Sausages.. 😖😟

Anyway it's all cooling now, ready for portioning later on......and I'm full to bursting...

This is past my pay grade. Fill, run, empty is me. Fixing is SO. Thank you!

Three icons lit up on my car dashboard on Sunday: Check Engine, Vehicle Stability Control, and 4WD. Ugh! I called the dealership, but the first available appointment was on Christmas Eve at 7:00 am! I was in a panic, so the tech very kindly said that if I brought the car in he would take a quick look and at least let me know if it is safe to drive in the meantime. (It is; whew.) While I was there they had a cancellation and said I could bring it in today, but I had a firm work deadline and couldn't do that, much to my frustration.

I was able to get an appointment for next Tuesday. From what I've read online, repairs could range from a few hundred to over $4,000 (!). If it's the latter, that would wipe out my entire estimated January tax prepayment and decimate my savings.

The car, a Toyota RAV4, is nearly 20 years old, but a new vehicle is out of the question.

So for the next several days I will be grabbing as many work assignments as I can get and try to not develop a bleeding ulcer. 😟

Oh dear, just what nobody needs! Even tho' it's older, car repairs are a PITA. Hoping for a low priced repair for you!

I was out and about early to pick up a few small things like a new snow brush for the car and other doo-dads.

Lots of people out, and despite the "crowding" compared to what we had been seeing everyone seemed really cheerful. Seemingly zero guilt by strangers wishing each other "Merry Christmas." People in checkout lines humming along and even singing with the Christmas music played in the stores. Unashamed Christmas decorating and displays inside and outside. Cars with those goofy "reindeer antlers" and such all over the parking lots.

It's as if a damp, dark cloud has been lifted from our shoulders - and we don't even have snow at the moment. Even traffic and parking seemed heavy but polite and orderly.

If this keeps up people are going to need medical attention for holding such wide smiles so long.

...but it's not even Christmas...yet..

Honestly today at the stores, if I didn't know it was December I wouldn't have had a clue Christmas was near . No jollyness.. no Christmas music.. no decorations to speak of.... very dull

Well here we tend to front-load the holiday, once it hits we're done aside from the chaos of returns and buying up leftovers at discounts for a couple of days.

You guys have Boxing Day, Blitz Day, Lords Be Leaping Day, and probably some other Advent-ures I don't know about. Not to mention shouting down to urchins in the street to run off and buy you that big goose hanging in the window of the poulter.

I've finished my Christmas shopping and have mailed out all of the packages except one which will go out tomorrow. I enjoy buying the gifts and wrapping them, hoping the recipients will like what I got for them. My family and friends live in many different parts of the country so seeing them all in person during the holidays isn't possible. Thankful for Face Time.

The weather here has been dreary and cold and the sky is like a gray dome...not a hint of blue sky to be found. But when the sun does finally poke through everything will brighten up.
