"Mystery" Drones Flying Over Parts of New Jersey, New York & Pennsylvania

I had the same thought about shooting them down but then I was really wondering why there was more concern about the weather balloon than there is about these drones.
Yes, that's probably the answer to the whole question. If government was/is so concerned with weather balloons it's because they are sure (or pretty sure) they are Chinese. So, if they show no concern for the drones it must be because the government is flying them. Simple logic.

There are over 700,000 registered drones in the US alone. As I understand it, these are drones that can enter "air" space. There are possibly one million toy drones, which don't have the ability to enter "air" space, but can be 6 feet in size. The drone industry is a $1.4 billion one.
So, some one sees one over Hackensack, NJ, and gets all spooked and types their fingers off online.
There are 80 nations that have satellites in orbit, which have online feeds, so drones are not needed to spy on top secret places.

If the military wanted them down, a well armed A-10 Warthog would do the trick. Don't think they could outrun or shake a trusty Warthog.
The A-10's GAU-8 30 mm rotary cannon is arguably its most famous feature. Mounted in the nose, this Gatling gun is one of the most powerful fitted to an aircraft to date. Its rapid bursts are responsible for the A-10s famous raspy sound, which comes from its seven barrels firing 65 rounds per second.
I hope you are joking. Those cannons might destroy a drone but half of Pennsylvania and all of Maryland and Joysie would also be rubble.

The U.S. deploys many counter-drone capabilities overseas, including traditional firearms outfitted with computerized optics, remotely operated vehicle-mounted heavy weapons turrets, laser-guided rocket and missile systems, AI-assisted kinetic interceptors, radio frequency- and Global Positioning System-jamming electronic warfare suites, and even exotic directed energy weapons like high-energy lasers and high-powered microwaves, among others.

But the types of counter-drone capabilities the Pentagon can utilize for domestic defense may be limited to non-kinetic “soft kill” means like RF and GPS signal jamming and other relatively low-tech interception techniques like nets and string streamers due to legal constraints on the US military’s ability to engage with drones over American soil, unless it is a determined threat to public safety.

The homeland is a very sophisticated environment in that it’s complicated from a regulatory perspective. It’s a very civilianized environment. It’s not a war zone. If you're going to turn it into a war zone, then the laws and regulations will need to be changed first.

Even Elon Musk, who is interested in all things about space, has not ventured an opinion on the drones, at least that I have seen on X; which also leads me to believe that they are not a complete mystery to everyone.
You are correct. The only post I can remember him putting up about drones was back in September.

Well, as long as conspiracy theories are all the rage, maybe they are bounty hunter drones looking for illegal aliens for the upcoming mass deportation agenda. If you are seen coming out of a Mexican restaurant, they beam you up, and off you go to detention. I will be checking the overhead sky before lurching out the door with my to-go order. One can't be too careful in uncertain times.

Yes. I forgot my sarcasm attachment.

Whew! That's a big relief! :)

He is likely correct. It is much harder to detect and hit a small, fast-moving target, especially if there are many that are operating in unison by communicating. Since automation can respond quicker than humans, one can't avoid the temptation to give them full autonomy to think, calculate, and make decisions regarding elimination.

If you hold back from taking that step, and the enemy doesn't, it may be too late. I am reminded of the ominous saying: "War doesn't care who is right, only who is left".

It's very concerning where allowing weaponry to make those kinds of decisions might lead, but sadly, that may be the future.

Why doesn't the military just shoot them down ? Like the balloon .
Because no one seems to know what their payload is.

"And though federal officials have said there is no evidence the drone sightings pose a public safety threat, the mayor of Belleville, New Jersey has said he has received guidance police should call the county bomb squad if they encounter a downed drone. In addition, local fire departments should wear hazmat suits when they respond, Mayor Michael Melham said, saying the information was shared by his Office of Emergency Management following recent state-level meetings."

Most of the pictures and videos that I have seen about these drones (or whatever they are) seems to be at night. Are people also seeing them in the daytime ?
If they are spying on people, there are fewer people outside at night to spy on, it would seem like. And it does not make sense that it is realtors doing overhead videos of sale property at night either. So, I think that they are some kind of distraction, but I have no idea what we are being distracted from.

Unless we really are having the long-promised alien invasion, I believe that our government and the military know exactly what these things are, and why they are there.

People don't need to be outside to be spied on Happyflowerlady, as I mentioned in my post #63. I agree with you about the unlikelihood that it's realtors.

There is no evidence that these drones are a threat, but since we don't know what they are, there's also no evidence they're not a threat.

I find it mind-boggling that our trillion dollar a year military can't determine where these drones are coming from.

One possibility is the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (CCDCAC), headquartered at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. It is the US Army's primary research and development arm for armaments and munitions, and they were recently awarded a big contract for development of unmanned drones for detecting WMD's.

They claim it's not them, but it is somewhat of a coincidence.

Why don't you just admit it, bobcat. You're a drone apologist.
Ha ha .... No, I don't like them or approve of what they're doing, but as I said earlier, getting rid of them may be easier said than done.
The police don't like sideshows for teenagers with muscle cars, and they are illegal, but they still continue.
I hope they find out who's behind this, and put a stop to it, but until laws are changed, it may be something society has to live with. IDK

watching the news about these "drones" last eve and one
looked to me like a normal large airplane just flying over, with
lights, including lights where the landing gear was dropped
down, but news didn't mention that, just said it was "drone" !!!

It's not Picatinny drones. And the FAA has imposed flight restrictions around the arsenal. These things are being spotted around infrastructure like nuke plants (and living relatively near one here, it's a tad unnerving), bridges, other military installations, reservoirs, etc.
Well, maybe it could be a group that takes surveillance footage, and covertly sells it to other countries, but that would make more sense if it happened during daylight. IDK, but they don't seem to be very stealth minded in their usage. Hopefully some answers will be coming soon.
