I am in same boat. I was born to work and make money; it feels so..so..fulfilling! Then I can give away money, even better!

Anyway: I have mentioned this need to be doing work and invariably some (younger) doc or whoever will think to solve my issue I should:

"Go volunteer". It isn't THAT, is a drive to feel worth something to the world.

I feel like saying: "YOU go volunteer, work for nothing. Try it!"

I have tried volunteering: The younger organizers treat you, during training, as if you are dumber than a brick or you are a little KID!

Then when you get on the job, it is so BORING it makes me want to jump ship. Which I do.

I took a job selling donuts one time, it had a drive through counter, too. I had to really hustle and work a lot! They gave me the job of closing up within a week after I started. It was great! I had so much fun: everyone wanted to either know if I was the OWNER (age) or would tip me big time, thinking I was supplementing my old age income! They paid me only $12.00 and hour (2 years ago) but I could have cared less. But having that check with my name on it and a potential for moving up was worth every minute.

The Song Of The Wage-Slave

Robert William Service

When the long, long day is over, and the Big Boss gives me my pay,
I hope that it won't be hell-fire, as some of the parsons say.
And I hope that it won't be heaven, with some of the parsons I've met --
All I want is just quiet, just to rest and forget.
Look at my face, toil-furrowed; look at my calloused hands;
Master, I've done Thy bidding, wrought in Thy many lands --
Wrought for the little masters, big-bellied they be, and rich;
I've done their desire for a daily hire, and I die like a dog in a ditch.
I have used the strength Thou hast given, Thou knowest I did not shirk;
Threescore years of labor -- Thine be the long day's work.
And now, Big Master, I'm broken and bent and twisted and scarred,
But I've held my job, and Thou knowest, and Thou will not judge me hard.
Thou knowest my sins are many, and often I've played the fool --
Whiskey and cards and women, they made me the devil's tool.
I was just like a child with money; I flung it away with a curse,
Feasting a fawning parasite, or glutting a harlot's purse;
Then back to the woods repentant, back to the mill or the mine,
I, the worker of workers, everything in my line.
Everything hard but headwork (I'd no more brains than a kid),
A brute with brute strength to labor, doing as I was bid;
Living in camps with men-folk, a lonely and loveless life;
Never knew kiss of sweetheart, never caress of wife.
A brute with brute strength to labor, and they were so far above --
Yet I'd gladly have gone to the gallows for one little look of Love.
I, with the strength of two men, savage and shy and wild --
Yet how I'd ha' treasured a woman, and the sweet, warm kiss of a child!
Well, 'tis Thy world, and Thou knowest. I blaspheme and my ways be rude;
But I've lived my life as I found it, and I've done my best to be good;
I, the primitive toiler, half naked and grimed to the eyes,
Sweating it deep in their ditches, swining it stark in their styes;
Hurling down forests before me, spanning tumultuous streams;
Down in the ditch building o'er me palaces fairer than dreams;
Boring the rock to the ore-bed, driving the road through the fen,
Resolute, dumb, uncomplaining, a man in a world of men.
Master, I've filled my contract, wrought in Thy many lands;
Not by my sins wilt Thou judge me, but by the work of my hands.
Master, I've done Thy bidding, and the light is low in the west,
And the long, long shift is over . . . Master, I've earned it -- Rest.

All I want for Christmas is a job. There is Nothing. To. Do. I stretch out my little household chores to last as long as possible. (Not a lot of chores in the teeny, tiny Hovel!) Go to bed as late as I can to avoid getting up too early to another empty day. And the longer I go without a job, the physically weaker I seem to get.

I'd even go back to work as the Biscuit Bitch at the place where I worked before the bakery, in spite of the fact that there are, to put it kindly, some unsavory people working there (at least one while I was there who came to work packing(!) and carried a flask in his backpack. Unfortunately, the place caught fire about a month ago and still has not reopened.

It's no fun feeling unnecessary:(

@Georgiagranny Doesn't your city or county have a "parks and recreation department' that includes programs
for seniors, for socializing and to keep you busy? To give you an idea:

Programs | Parks, Recreation and Community Services ==> riversideca.gov/park_rec/programs-sports/seniors/programs
Moreno Valley: Services for Seniors
https://jgc4seniors.com and www.rcaging.org

Or RCC Community Education ==> The Riverside Community College District believes that learning is a life-long pursuit, so our
Young@Heart program offers senior citizens age 55 and over a variety of tuition-free, high-quality learning experiences in our
community. If you value spending quality time learning with like-minded adults, you will enjoy these Senior Young@Heart classes.

THERE MUST BE SOMETHING IN YOUR COMMUNITY TO CONNECT YOU WITH OTHER PEOPLE. Even if it is just
"Seniors Helping Seniors: 1.800.550.4052" although I don't know whether this toll-free number is valid in your area.

well, I know how you feel... living alone.. nothing whatsoever to do here... far from any family... thank God for SF...

Have a lovely day out with your daughter, @hollydolly !

Plans for today for me: clean stove top after breakfast (made chai earlier— turned my back for like 5 seconds, milky tea boiling over—oy). Then I am *determined* to tackle the shelving stand in my bathroom and give it a thorough cleaning. A tedious process but needs to be done

Shopping, visit Ed, order Christmas gifts for a couple people, make 2 more batches granola, and reserve a hotel room for the weekend after Christmas near my daughter in N Georgia.

At 2pm, I’m going to a coffee klatch with several friends at one of their homes.

Y’all have a lovely day!

gotta be the center of attention !

I updated my self tallying dividend spreadsheet this morning. I did laundry this afternoon and into the evening (still drying). When I got to the exit door, I noticed it had started snowing. Normally, I wouldn't go downstairs when there's precipitation, but I had to get it done today. Definitely don't go downstairs on the weekends and Monday we have our eye appointments. after which the plumber is coming to install a new kitchen faucet and see if he can fix the leaky bathtub faucet. I also had lengthy phone conversations with my BFF and another good friend.

It's been a leisurely morning so far but, it's 9.45 am now so, time to get a wiggle on as we are off for some Christmas shopping today. Hope you all have a great Saturday :)

BTW have you all noticed the new 'cool' emoji? It's kind of like this :cool: but a bit smirkier like this 😏. Is it a good cool or a sarky cool?

I am another sleepless night so I went to the kitchen to wear myself out. Cooked breakfast sausage and a pan of milk gravy. Will bake biscuits after I have a sleep.

Made some yummy mashed potatoes and sweet corn. Put together a small meatloaf and will make a little brown gravy for it tomorrow, some like tomato but I like brown. Throw in some onions and mushrooms and you are on the moon.

I took a piece of cube steak out of the freezer in case the son comes by. Not a meatloaf fan, just like his Dad, no, I don't get it.

I made an easy dessert. Small casserole dish, put graham crackers in the bottom, sugar free instant pudding next layer, whipped cream on top. Refrigerate, the graham cracker will get soft like the vanilla wafers in banana pudding. You can crush some graham crackers on top when you serve but I prefer some walnuts, pecans or almonds.

Good morning, Santa's Invisipeeps!🎅🤶

Maggiecat let me sleep until 7.

It's a sort of cold morning here...33F and overcast. The weatherliars say the sun will be out today.

I don't think there's anything on the agenda today except cleaning the water well in the coffeepot and figuring out a way to wrap the mailbox I'm giving DGS.

Yup. A mailbox. The one in front of his house has seen better...much better...days. He's also getting the post that it sits on because that, too, has seen better days. I've thought about wrapping the post and telling him to open it first or wrapping the sack of Quikcrete that will be used to anchor the post. I have a mental picture of him opening a six-foot hunk of wood and a sack of Quikcrete. Sort of like getting a lump of coal? LOL

Mmm it all sounds good!

Family Christmas tomorrow. Today I'm doing deviled eggs with Mexican flare. A cream cheese fruit dessert.
Surprise for DH. He requested carrot cake or red velvet. Too late to make but found one of those four cakes in one at Walmart, : Carrot, Red Velvet, another chocolate (?), German chocolate, his other favorite.
Cooking ground pork for breakfast casserole. Grands will stay tomorrow until Tuesday.
Tomorrow, guacamole, white bean chicken chili, various sides along with what others bring.
Cleaning up then I'm ready!!!!!!

Snowed last night! Only a cover, but the trees look so silvery and beautiful! It's cold, 30, and windy, which will make it feel more cold. Grandson lost the second of his front teeth, he looks so cute! Today, thank goodness, he and his dad are coming to visit me today! We will probably go to some nice park for awhile, lunch probably pizza, son will help with food shopping and cutting the cats' nails. Louie 🐈 gets kind of aggressive, he loves me with such passion!

I'm in a good mood. I cut new med in half & it helps.

Had a horrible day yesterday, physically/mentally due to med mix ups, but feel so much better today. I wanted to come here to Beg for Help. I'm glad I didn't, I'm getting a Rep.

Today, feel really good. Happy to see my son/grandson!

Sweet little thing, soon he will look like he has chiclets for front teeth but before you know it he will grow to fit the teeth. I feel just like him but the dentist took a couple of teeth toward the back. He may need help, have to cut the pizza because he might not be able to get a good bite. I have lost the best two places for NY style pizza close to me, I don't know why they had the most wonderful pies at a good price! These national chains don't have a clue what a good pizza is,

Funny how it is, the Doc says take this and you will feel better. I am guessing that you are a very small person they are not used to that, we are usually over or under prescribed the wrong dosage, I am a fluffy person, they can see that, they weigh me every time, still they mess it up, Little people are turned to zombies, fluffy people continue to be sick or in pain. These docs went to school for 12 to 15 years. When giving meds our weight should be the first thing they look at.

I am thrilled you feel better today! If I was there, we would go ice skating, even if I fell and broke the other hip it would be a highlight of my life. Those would be the only reasons I would come to NYC, eat pizza and ice skate with you!!

let us know how to make it. I am guessing it has a special marinade or sauce!!!
@Blessed

I posted the recipe somewhere .. anyways, here it is again :)

Soak wooden skewers in warm water (I use a measuring cup).

Chicken cut in strips for wooden skewers
Marinade: 1/2 & 1/2 Kikkoman (Japanese) soy sauce & water (depends on how much chicken to marinade)
One large onion, diced, to add to marinade.
Add chicken to marinade and leave in fridge for a few hours.

After draining and skewering chicken strips:

In separate bowls or dishes:
(Amounts according to how many chicken skewers.)
Flour
raw eggs, scrambled
fine breadcrumbs

Brown in hot fry-pan, finish off in oven at around 350' for 10-15 mins .. just keep an eye out, so they don't burn.

Bon Appetit!

Why not call his post office and have his post person tell him the mailbox is in bad shape and needs to be replaced or delivery may not be possible until it is up to code.....Dear Grandmother knows all!!!!
