What T.V. Shows Had You Hooked Even Before The First Episode Ended?

I was always a big fan of old British television programs like Lovejoy, The Simple Life, Waiting for God, The Last of the Summer Wine, To the Manor Born, Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, and any cozy old British mystery.

I don’t really see much that is new other than Masterpiece on PBS.

The one that became my "set aside all other activities for the night" was Northern Exposure, at least the first four seasons. It kind of fizzled the last two years or so when it was recast and the writers had run out of creativity. I liked it because it was unique, surprising, and full of characters with quirky, if not absurd personalities. A mix of stars, some unknowns. The odd thing, it was a hit, but never had a spin off or some other show that attempted to mimic it.

Also:
Dexter
Breaking Bad
Stargate SG1
Smallville
Downton Abbey
Queens Gambit
Evil

Also, can't forget
Twilight Zone
The Passage
Downton Abbey
The Equalizer
and Evil
@Mizmo Elsbeth was created by Robert and Michell King, who also created Evil. They created other hit shows, one of which was The Good Wife. I couldn't get into Good Wife, but Elsbeth is listed as a spin off of that show and The Good Fight.
