After doing a good bit of research on the subject I called Costco and Acer and they both advised against trying to roll back my new Windows 11 laptop to Windows 10. Not because it would void the warranty or anything like that. They just said they wouldn't advise it. The concept is iffy at best, and doing a factory reset doesn't always work right.
So I started trying to set it up the same way I did my sons, which basically works fine. I tried to run some of the misc. software I had copied to a USB drive and and I kept getting error messages saying Windows can't find that file at the specified location. I disconnected the drive and plugged it into this laptop, and the files were all there, the drive passed all tests, etc.
I plugged it back into the other one and it did the same thing again. So once again I called Costco tech support and told them about it. They said Windows 11 was corrupt. So the next day, with just two days left before I could no longer return it
I took it back. The guy at Costco tech support said he believed that the corrupt Windows killed my Seagate 8Tb USB drive. So I returned that too.
Edit: I hate typos...
