Do you think there are still very specific gender roles?

There are a lot of nuances here. For instance, I don't think women will ever play in the NBA. But I could see a day when the WNBA is on par with the NBA in terms of viewership and revenues (admittedly a long time from now). So are those "gender roles?"

Sorry men as far as gender roles females are more productive than males. We just fertilize eggs while females run the whole factory.

Actually, Mr. Ed, we don’t fertilize anything—female reproductive processes handle that internally. We merely deliver the genetic material, and the female body determines whether fertilization occurs. So, if anything, we’re just couriers, not factory workers!

I doubt most men will get pregnant, so yeah, there are biological differences. I've worked with women most of my life. Some women have this notion, that "little girls don't do that", and they wait for a man's help. I don't think it's a matter of physical or mental strength, but some outdated notion of femineity.

The number of transgendered people is about 1 in 200. I don't understand how something so rare, so personal and so medical became an Issue for the general public. People are born all kinds of ways and some of those ways need fixing. Extra toes are removed, crooked legs are straightened, heart surgery is required. Why is it so hard to believe someone might have been exposed to too much of the wrong hormone while in the uterus and the visible parts don't match the brain?

The "sports problem" is even more rare. If out of a class of 200 one child is transgendered, then he/she may not even be interested in sports so it's probably about one in a thousand who wants to play sports.

[facetious] Those schools that do have a girl's basketball team only let five out of the hundred or so girls play! They are blatantly biased toward the tall ones! They have to be able to hit the basket most of the time! It's not fair! [/facetious]

The fact is sports have never been fair and the large majority of us don't make the team.

When I said "evolved from" I expected you to know I was talking about the distant past, long before there were such things a tractors. When states like Ohio were cleared of their trees by the ax, the big stumps dug out with a shovel, and the hard ground plowed on foot for the first time, I really don't think any woman could have done that.
No matter what it is 2025 so farm equipment is generally available. Again, do some research and you will be surprised.

Thankfully society has turned the corner and started moving back toward normality again. Once you get to people born late in the 1980s you can find women who were not too overexposed to toxic influences to be able to overcome the programming. After the fall of the Soviets the psyop to undermine the west receded.

Example:

Such a refreshing view of parenthood and family! And no, this is not some unattractive low-IQ drone who lacked ambition and opportunities or was "kept down by men."

No I dont think so either - differences in height and strength come into play.

However what would be good, as you say, is a women's competition getting equal revenue, viewership etc.

Similar has happened in Australia with AFL - there is now a women's competition - skill level, viewership etc not on a par with men's - but is growing steadily.

and at least exists.

Incidentally cheer leading has disappeared entirely from football here - and I think that is a good thing, women have sport competitions in their own right, not just cheering for men's sport

Also incidentally there has been a rise of women umpires and commentators in the men's sport and they would be paid the same - one needs endurance and skill for umpiring but the physical strength and height required are well within the range of both genders.

I've not expressed my feelings on a lot of these gender type threads so I may as well go ahead and add my $.02.

I'm pretty much tired of all this trans, I identify as a 'X' and my pronoun is a 'X' bullcrap going around and being shoved down our throats nowadays.....I won't argue back and forth about how or why I feel as I do I'll just say what I have to say and be done with it.

There are only two human genders Male and Female....period.

If you're a biological female and start dressing and acting rough & tough like a lumberjack you are still female and if you're a biological male and start prancing around wearing a tutu and makeup you're still a male. No matter how you dress or what surgery you may have you are still what you were born....let me break it down even further, you can put lipstick on a pig but after you do it's still a pig.

Let me help those who still may be confused about which sex they are....#1 put your hand in your britches and feel around #2 get naked look in the mirror or #3 better and easier yet if you're still not sure just look on your dam birth certificate.

I'm done....y'all have a nice day.
Cool speech, bro. Worth all .02.

But, off topic.

Women are typically better with children and always have been. Same with animal kingdom with offspring ..and males flee after births. It is genetic.
On college prep exams men have generally score higher in science and math. So more men go into the hard sciences on advanced levels. Maybe women are not interested in these jobs.but they are slowly catching up

Not all animals actually.

Emus - the mother lays the eggs and the father looks after them till hatching and also looks after the chick's.

Some other animals too but can't remember which they are. Echidnas I think.

Obviously mammal it will be the mother until the offspring are weaned.

For many years, I was a computer programmer/analyst. My code was primarily written in the COBOL language, which was overwhelmingly the most used language at that time (pretty obsolete by now, this was about 30 years ago). COBOL was invented by Admiral Grace Hopper, who was a renowned mathematician and computer pioneer.

She was hardly alone. There are books and movies about the brilliant women who have made earth-shattering advances in math and science, going back as far as WW2.

I do agree with you about the fact that women are "programmed" to take care of children, but a lot of that is a stereotype by now. The current generation of young parents often swap roles as needed. Fathers take care of the little ones, often when Mom is at work. Gay men adopt children, I know a few of them myself, so it isn't that rare. Times have changed.

The only specific gender "role" I've had is being a mother and a woman.
And it isn't a role to me. It is who I am, so it isn't some game.
Life is easy: a or b.

I am still confused over the whole gender/sex thing and roles thing. In reality the whole thing feels and looks wonky i.e. off kilter.

Humans have unique way of mucking up things and making them more complex than they are.
Am beginning to think we are all genetic errors 😭 as opposed to subjects of genetic evolution (y).

Maybe because all the forms I've EVER been asked to fill out read:

"Gender: Male or Female, circle ONE" or
"Sex: Male or Female, circle ONE".

My gender and sex are female. It isn't a role I can choose; I am what I am.
Always was always will be...as far as I can conclude.

I believe I can understand what you mean, and how you are looking at things.

Defining gender is complicated these days. But I think the use of the word "role" in this thread is easy to understand. It has much to do with how individuals spend their waking lives. There are roles in a family or household, roles pertaining to earning money, roles within the community, etc.

When I have children I don't feel I have a choice whether to be a mother or not.
It is part of me being the one to have a baby: be its mother, ensure it survives and thrives in life. I took that responsibility very seriously.

To not do so would require that I give up that responsibility. With birth comes a responsibility. Thank God I never had to give up a baby for adoption as I don't think I have that in me.

I deeply respect every mother who ever had to give up a child because they financially could not provide for the child.

I wish more parents would realize they are not the best thing for their offspring.

Men are incapable of vacuuming, so naturally that's a woman's job.
They don't SEE drips on the floor, dust bunnies, dirty sinks and toilets...windows....

Some do, but those are usually gay or OCD, from my experience.

I had a gay male room mate once or twice over the years; I rented a room from him.
He was so OCD, but the floors were clean, the bathrooms were clean, he vacuumed regularly. But he was gay.

Every straight man I ever EVER known and lived with is about 25% as clean as most women..but then again I have cleaned house for many women who work and most were awful...because their spouse didn't clean either?

Women are flat out interested in other things than what men are interested in. It isn't all environment or choice, it can't be.
I TRIED to raise my two boys and two girls "neutral"...on purpose. It simply did not work! The boys did boy things and the girls did girl things...but all four in varying degrees for sure. One son hates to get his hands dirty, is very particular about his home, hosts people; the other doesn't care whether he gets dirty or not, just wants a cot and hot at home...

I love how much VARIETY but some sameness there are about people.

I have a shop vacuum that I use. Otherwise, my work-space floors would be littered with sawdust or steel filings & dust.

I learned to cook because I went camping sometimes, and lived in my own living space at age 20 as well as from some time or another in years after. I don't have a broad range of recipes I can prepare but, being retired, I do roughly half the cooking now.

Have found over the years that a guy will tell you he can cook and clean until you marry him.

It usually ends up: men can cook and clean, yes, most can scramble and egg if they are hungry and you don't do it for them; but they often wait it out until a woman has no choice but to do it out of desperation. Cleaning means cleaning the sink they use once a month or every six months, if you don't do it out of disgust before they do.

It is probably just me though, my picker and or I just can't tell if a man is telling me the truth or not.

Am sure there are some men out there who clean and cook...but I have yet to find one in 50 years or so... :ROFLMAO:

My cleaning and cooking standards are pretty up there too.... ;)

Lol yes great comment so many of us are vile . I thought I was clever till my wife filed for divorce and now low and behold I only screwed myself as we men often do . I have to dope myself up on caffeine just to do laundry as hate it .

I do tell divorced women I meet that they are better off not dating as why would they want to cook , clean for some ingrate and sure we men start off considerate , helpful but who is kidding who it's an act .

I had a bathroom plumbing job this afternoon and again noticed what you stated as the retired husband roughly my age was watching tv and his retired wife taking care of everything , most of us are repugnant but at least I make no bones about it and think women appreciate my candor .
