For me, I like the social interaction, but there's more. I've found great information about property taxes, cooking methods, health supplements, aging, exercise and entertainment. I enjoy the conversations and the people here and find the forum informative. There are also lots of warm, funny and inspirational people in this forum. That's the bonus! (y)

Everything you said.
And it beats talking to my cat.

Honestly? I found this place by accident while looking for information on retiring.

Medicare, social security, etc. I'm closing in on retirement age, and I am vastly ignorant about these things.

What I found here is a bunch of really wonderful people. As with any community, there are a couple of tools, but I've just put them on ignore.

I think I miss the interaction at the last office with my fun colleagues and as I have no friends (they have passed on), I come on over here to have some social interaction. I still have my husband otherwise I probably would be making more of an effort to meet other people in person. So thank you to you all who created this forum, administer this forum and just lovely people like
@hollydolly, @Jules, and many others on this forum.

Social networking is no longer considered the domain of the young. A study recently found that that more than half of American internet users aged over 65 now use Facebook. Not all older people feel comfortable using social networking sites. Facebook, can be confusing, with too many functions, distractions and extraneous information.

There's also the fear of a loss of privacy and malicious intent when communicating online. Before the internet I had never heard the word Scam. Looking it up I found it to be an acronym: "Scanning and Alarm Monitoring." A deliberate fraudulent or deceptive act or operation.

Another term that is new to me is a social media lurker. A person that scrolls through social media but doesn't engage with the content. That's what I was, it took me a long time to fully engage. How glad I am to have got involved.

Our married life has centred around social engagement, mostly through dance, as in Latin & Ballroom. Dance has given us a wonderful social circle, it has also filled our free time with functions and engagements. All that stopped with Covid, then, just as trust was building, my wife's fatigue was diagnosed as a heart condition. She has been recovering from heart surgery since last August.

Senior Forums sounded more like a collective noun than an actual forum, it's how I came about being here. Facebook and all those type of social media is not for me, but Senior Forums has been more than I could have anticipated. Social engagement with trust and empathy, just wonderful.

Will we ever dance again? Who knows? I have my wife, she's making good recovery and the blessing that we had with dance friends we have once more. Thank you all so much.

A few years ago I was bored one evening.

I googled "Free Popcorn. Boobs. And Gratuitous Use of Midgets."

This site appeared right at the top! The computer algorithm must have picked up one of Mr. Ed' posts and led me here!

Seriously, many friendly folks here...very little snark...some nice stories and helpful advice. It's an over all pleasant forum to engage in. 👍

While I rarely if ever begin a thread, I will respond to topics of interest to me. I enjoy talking with folks from the far corners of this world and learning their cultures. What I do like is the fun times and the caring that so many show to each other. At my age, most of my lifelong friends have passed on, but this gives me an opportunity to meet many new ones, which warms my heart.

It doesn't matter how old we are here, for I love chatting with all generations. I try to stay away from advice topics in the medical arena. Occasionally, I will weigh in on one if I know others have advised incorrectly. I prefer folks getting advice from their care providers.

Pinky said it best, camaraderie.

I love being here at SF because I find it to be a very unique forum,to have members from around the world, with different points of views on any subject. It's like a big family, we're here for each other, giving help or advice. At times we may disagree with each other, not in a mean spirited way I also like that there is No Politics
When I joined in 2017 I was warmly welcomed that has always stayed with me Sue

I like talking to others and hearing what you all have to say. My favorite topics tend to be in Entertainment--books, movies, tv, etc.--bc most of my emotional life these days is responding to same.

Also, though it frustrates me sometimes, the No Politics rule helps us avoid vicious attacks and divisions.
