If I Was Buzz Aldrin

I would have tackled Armstrong on the ladder...then leapt past him to be crowned the first man on the Moon. Then all of the history books would be talking about The Buzzster!!

Not kidding. If I were in Buzz's boots I would have done just that!

What would your first words be for the whole world to hear as you lept past him?
"Citizens of Earth! You may be the third planet from the Sun, but you're still number one in my heart! And this is the most historic butt in line in the history of the world!"

I had something a bit different in mind.

Bearing in mind how long you would have spent on the spacecraft before landing, I would have thought you might call out something like:
"Come on Neil, step aside! It might only be one small step for you, but it's going to be one giant dash to the restroom for me!"

I can see those words splashed all over the front pages.

Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin once spoke at Montclair High School, his Alma Mater in New Jersey and told a corny moon rock joke that fell flat, so he said, “I guess you had to be there.”

If I had a chance to be first man on the moon I would have had a secret marketing deal with Coke, or Pepsi and my first words would be "I drink Coca Cola because exploring the moon is thirsty work."

I named my son Neil after the first man on the moon. Not sure I would have named him Edwin (Buzz Aldrin's name).

Beezer, Some of us aren’t as domineering or narcissistic as you.
Besides, Armstrong was the Commander and in charge of the flight, meaning that he had first choice as to who was getting on the ladder first. The first one on the ladder would have been the first one to step on the lunar surface.

Flattery will get you everywhere! :)

But really now. Very few remember Buzz...and probably only because of his quirky nickname. Everyone remembers Neil. The whole world and history books would remember The Beeze if I were on that Capsule!

People do remember Buzz, just not Joe Sixpack or his wife Prunella.
Or Sammy Bagofdonuts.

I visited NASA and on the wall in the room where they give honor to all the astronauts that made history, there is a very nice tribute to all 3 members of Apollo 11 and the Eagle. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins are all pictured.

If you're a fan of the Apollo missions, you owe it to yourself to watch this 2007 documentary.

There are no narrations, no leading questions, no controversy. It's just the men of those missions, telling the stories, interspersed with film footage.

It's fascinating. I was completely mesmerized. The best documentary I've ever seen.

At the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, they show a great video of the Apollo mission. I forget how much the fee costs to visit the Kennedy Space Center, but it was well worth it. There are a lot of things to see and do there. You should allow yourself around 4 hours to take it all in.
