It's time to change the frikken clocks.

What amazes me is nobody seems to understand that we only get X number of minutes of sunlight per day, regardless of when we start counting. Daylight savings may have made questionable sense in the 1700s, but today we have electric lighting. So, we either turn the lights on in the morning, or turn them on at night, according to DST. Either way, there's no bonanza of savings.
We did DST all year one time in the 1970s due to an energy crisis. The result was that we went to school in the dark. At least with EST, we have light in the morning which is safer (and warmer) for the kids going to school. Of course, I'm talking about school in the city where public transportation was the way to get there.

This morning the results of the time change made me unhappy. I live in big game winter range and we have upwards of 100 elk living around us. The weekend ritual of letting one's dog out to roam free w/out supervision has conflicted w the local elk herd's movement this morning because of the dogs and there untimely release.

There have been dozens of highly agitated cows and their calfs running back and forth as the various dogs and the dogs barking keep them from finding a quiet spot to spend the day. The bulls are bugling trying to get their cows back under control. This is still going on now 3 hours after first light. These animals are facing winter and every calorie burned now is one less that will be available to them when they are stressed in late winter.

The recent influx of citidiots is going to be the ruination of the valley; they should go back where they came from, CA, WA, and TX. Eff them!

I really don't think the kids would mind starting school an hour late in the winter, and adults wouldn't mind leaving work an hour early in the summer. And I suspect there would be little difference in the amount of education or work productivity from reducing the hours. One job I had let us leave 3 hours early every Friday in the summer, that was so nice.

I'm glad people on this thread mentioned microwave etc, I had thought I was done just from changing my one battery powered wall clock, but noooo, oven and microwave don't reset automatically, shockingly primitive of them.

well we went to school in the dark in the city.. and walked there 2 miles... still here to tell the tale....

I have one clock in my entire home and it is on my bedstand. I never turn it forward, back or even loose. I look at it when I wake up and don't see it again till I go to sleep. Like Knight, I follow my body. I had to be somewhere on time all during my adult life and when I retired I said that I would never take 'what time it is" seriously again. I add or subtract an hour when needed.

When news arose last month that US politicians would revisit ending Daylight/Standard Time changes media quickly ran numbers of stories praising Daylight Savings Time since a majority of their advertisers, especially retail and leisure industries, have for years been trying to make DST permanent. Basically for economic reasons, they want more sun time after m-f 8-5 working people get off work. But NO NO and NO. That has since been clarified. SORRY, it will be a change to Standard Time! :ROFLMAO:

Goodbye to time changes? Donald Trump says he will push to end daylight saving time

Yes folks, WE outdoor and science folk are going to win this one finally despite years of media news manipulation!

My original post on this thread:

It's time to change the frikken clocks.

My person has never liked daylight savings. I wake up at the same time automatically- only this time of year that means 3:30 instead of 4:30. Going back to sleep for another hour or two is near impossible, that means I am wrung out for the morning 🤯🤐🤯🤐

Time change is real PITA for dairy farmers. Cows have to be milked on time, twice daily. They can’t wait an hour one way or the other. Not milking them on time could cause injury, even death. A huge loss of revenue for the farmer, if one only wants to look at the money side. I did not cross my dad during the winter months.

I don’t care which way they end “fall back spring ahead”, just end it ——-

I don't care if it's daylight savings time or what, but that we don't have to change the time on our clocks. Supposedly Congress is "reviewing" DST. There is a large majority of those wanting to do away with clock changing, but it's been that way for at least 10-15 years. It's in "committee", which is Congressional speak for "not in my lifetime".

It doesn't matter to me, now that I'm retired. I get up when I want and I go to sleep when I want. It didn't really matter to me when I was working, either, since I was on flex shift. I could go in to the office when I wanted and leave when I wanted, as long as I got my work done.

Why does media play up a Permanent DST and is in panic mode now? Because their advertisers have for years been paying them to manipulate the public into thinking so while the big guy in charge is no longer buying what their selling.

The origin of Daylight Saving Time is all about business — not farmers

The origin of Daylight Saving Time is all about business — not farmers

Farmers actually hated Daylight Saving Time. But it was and always has been good for one thing: selling stuff. Daylight Saving Time is about business — barbecues, baseball, and golf

In the meantime, businesses jumped at the chance to sell more products. Back when Daylight Saving Time was first enacted, Downing wrote, “golf ball sales skyrocketed.” And before floodlit playing fields, organized baseball was “a huge early supporter” of Daylight Saving Time.

Downing also says the energy lobby was a keen supporter of Daylight Saving Time, because it has known since 1930 that daylight saving makes people drive their cars more in the evening — so they use more gasoline.

In 1986, under president Ronald Reagan, the U.S. lengthened Daylight Saving Time from six months to seven. At Congressional hearings the year before, Downing says, the golf industry told lawmakers that the one additional month of daylight saving was “worth $200 million in additional sales of golf clubs and greens fees.”

“The barbecue industry said it was worth $100 million in additional sales of grills and charcoal briquettes,” Downing says. Daylight Saving Time is good for Big Candy, too.

Even though the 1986 switch lengthened Daylight Saving Time, it still didn’t encompass a very important date for another big industry: the candy lobby. Candy companies were convinced an extra hour of evening light on Halloween would give kids more time to collect more candy — and in turn get adults to buy more of it in anticipation. Candy lobbyists were so eager to get Halloween covered by Daylight Saving Time that they “put candy pumpkins on the seat of every senator, hoping to win a little favor” during the 1985 hearings as Big Golf and Big Barbecue made their case, according to Downing.

For at least 250,000 years, "noon" was when the sun was the highest in the sky-12 PM. There's no real good reason why we have to pretend 11AM is noon for part of the year.
Worse, changing our clocks can be deadly.

According to sleep experts, standard time is generally considered healthier than daylight savings time because it better aligns with the human circadian rhythm, leading to better sleep quality and overall well-being; the transition to daylight savings time can disrupt sleep patterns and potentially increase the risk of health issues like heart attacks and strokes.

Every time the system changes, there's talk about keeping on one all year, but it never happens. Anyway, in my poor opinion, I think it's backwards. DST should be in winter and ST the rest of the year. The BEST solution - pick one and sat on that!

Everyone should be free to decide for themselves what time it is. If that doesn't work for everyone else, GOOD.

It is a hazzle when schedduling video chat over time zones.
It messes with my internal clock. I am not happy I walk sideways for being to crabby.
Does anyone have a cat which adhers to time change?

Even for doctors appointments?
Medicine and doctors are all fubared. As someone who ha been in medicine on several different levels, I can say this with confidence.

In the 50's and 60's if you were sick or had a pain you went to the doctor. He knew things and took care of you to the best of his knowledge and equipment. There was a town doctor when I was a kid that was a walkin. Doc Brown. Any time. He had his office in his home. He din't charge some of his poorer patients.

Now days you have to go through all kinds of hoops and loops just to get an appointment and that's for months away. I know there are reasons for this. Back in the day we didn't have all these forms to fill out, no insurance and no county etc help.

Guess I am showing my age here.
