What I couldn't get this week shopping

Jules, you can find "Nilla" wafers on Amazon, and The Happy Belly Vanilla Wafers (Amazon brand) are the same size. They also carry 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Vanilla Wafers and Midel Vanilla Snaps. Take a look. To make an icebox cake, you can use almost any cookie.

18 Icebox Cake Recipes to Make Dessert Easier Than Ever 🙃😋
Thanks, Bella. Price is one of the reasons as a Canadian that I don’t shop on Amazon.ca

I might try the kinnikinnick brand, if available locally. I don’t need gluten free.

My cheesecake recipe makes 2 8” pie fillings. I had planned to make one and do the other in muffin tins. In a cupcake paper, put in a Nilla wafer, top with cheesecake batter and bake. Add cherry pie filling after cooled. I could make graham cracker crust; I prefer the lazy method.

You're welcome, Jules. Mmmm, cheesecake with cherry topping sounds yummy. When I want vanilla wafers for a recipe, I always use Kinnikinnick because I do need gluten-free, and they're just fine. Go for it!

I was able to get most of the items on my shopping list but the prices are getting off-putting. The last time I bought laundry detergent it was around $4 for a jug, but it's almost $10. Chocolate morsels are $3.75 for a bag and that's in the discount store - almost $5 in the grocery and that for the store brand.

Your laundry detergent went up 250%? I've not noticed anything near that level of inflation.

Nothing ..o_Oo_O at all for 2 days due to extreme heat and power outages , for over 24 hours in 45 c heat~ 113 f 🥵🥵🥵
We are in a severe drought in South Australia and the power networks are now privately owned so they lack maintenance ( power outages caused by build up of dust on insulators ~ that caused extra damage to a sub station) ~ due to lack of maintenance

Our main shopping hub where the likes of Aldi / Kmart / Woolworths is was forced to close for 2 days due to no power and cleaning up throwing food away due to no refrigeration ~ we are looking at getting a small generator to keep our fridge and freezer going , because we’ve already been informed there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again ~ Soon ~ unless we get a substantial amount of rain to clean the insulators ( that’s not going to happen )

How are you holding up?
Please get a generator at least on seize above what you think you need. We have had portable and installed ones for20+ years and they are worth every penny! Stay safe!

Thanks 🙏
We’ve had the power restored last night at 11.30 pm , I covered my upright freezer on the inside with a woolly blanket / and a very thick cotton blanket on the outside , a few things thawed but I’m using them today
I’d been to city …..and stocked up on heaps of lamb chops / legs for roasting ….the lamb leg was ok but chops had started to thaw after 2 days ( we live in a country town )

I mainly bottle our home grown fruit but have about 2 dozen jars of stewed plums and some strewed apricots they partly thawed but I’d think ~ they are safe to Re~ freeze .

We had a Honda generator in our caravan days , but sold it all just before Covid ….my DH is fairly knowledgeable and has looked at them online ~ to buy one in Adelaide ( city) in a couple of days time when we go down
think he said it’s a 2 KVA @Twostep

Oh Kadee. What a horrible ordeal you are going through. I’m so sorry to read this.
Twostep is right. You really ‘ should have a generator. They are expensive but worth every penny, especially if the power outage is more than 24 hours. Don’t open the freezers. If you open the freezers you are letting cold air out and warm air in. I hope your power turns on soon. Sending loving thoughts your way.

PS…. Years ago we had no power for 3 days and had to throw away a freezer full of food. That’s when we bought a generator.

We’ve had power back on since 11.30 pm last night @PeppermintPatty ..it’s 10.15 Sunday morning here

Good stuff. You’ll love having a generator even if you dont use it. Just the fact that you have one in case the power goes out will save you hours of needless worry. How’s the weather now? Are you still having a heat wave?
Apprently many who did have generators ….didn't have any fuel ⛽️ and petrol pumps don’t work without electricity

We’ve got 2x 20 Ltr jerry cans so that will be the second item on the list to buy after the generator …(y)

Ours runs on natural gas and comes on automatically.
Not having gas for your gas operated generator is .... . No neighborhood swap?

We lost everything in the freezer during a blizzard and what's followed it in Alabama. Homeowners insurance did cover the food.
