What I couldn't get this week shopping

Apprently many who did have generators ….didn't have any fuel ⛽️ and petrol pumps don’t work without electricity

We’ve got 2x 20 Ltr jerry cans so that will be the second item on the list to buy after the generator …(y)
No sense having generators unless you have gas . We always have 4 containers full of gas.
Thats the sensible way to do it.

$200 on a pool cover to keep the heat in and keep evaporation to a minimum. They last about a year before starting to fall apart.

Be prepared for shortages. This evening's news reported that people are now hoarding things such as paper products, canned goods, condiments, and many other items I can't remember, hoping to avoid higher prices due to tariffs. They don't know where products come from, so they're just hoarding everything they can get.

Call me a hoarder but I have toilet paper, wine and cat food for six months. That is tariff or no tariff.

In the winter, I keep extra chili, canned meats, peanut butter, and certain things like that in case power goes down. I haven't thought of it as hoarding since I don't buy big quantities all at once, just an extra now and then. I also like to always have 2 packages of paper towels on hand.

how big are the packages of paper towels ?..I mean how many in a package?

I have a stock of canned foods, not prepper in any way..but aside from about 30 can or so of mainy beans, peas, and the odd meat... I also have about the same amount stored in the barn, with pasta and oils etc... along with paper goods, and laundry soap and cleaning goods etc..... I buy packs of 24 Kitchen paper, and packs of 48 Loo rolls at a time from Costco... but also in the barn and shed, are freezers.. of which I buy food in bulk, and portion up and freeze

The kind of paper towels I buy each have 6 rolls wrapped in a plastic package (about $6.30 / package).
The extra canned meat and beans, peanut butter, are things I could (wouldn't want to, but could) eat in case power went down, and I couldn't cook, or the roads iced over.
In summer, I don't worry if I run out of things because I only live a mile from Walmart and could walk over there, even though I wouldn't want to walk anywhere if it was freezing outside.

It might come sooner than we think for us in the uk...In our media today...

Fears of a plot by Russia to sabotage Britain's energy pipelines means families should pack a 72-hour 'survival kit', security advisers have warned.

As the UK pursues Net Zero environmental targets – leading to the closure of coal-fired power stations – the country has become increasingly reliant on supplies of gas and electricity from abroad in order to 'keep the lights on'.

Nearly 40 per cent of the UK's gas supply is imported from Norway, much of which comes through the single, 700-mile Langeled pipeline.

Concerns that the Russians are planning a sabotage operation have escalated since one of their spy ships, the Yantar, was detected mapping the UK's critical underwater infrastructure in the North Sea in recent months.

With the UK reported to have come close to blackouts during the past winter – saved only by emergency reserves and electricity imported undersea from Denmark – security experts have argued that British households should follow the example of the EU, which has advised citizens to pack a three-day survival kit.

This should include water, non-perishable food, medicines, a battery-powered radio, a torch, identity documents and a Swiss Army knife.

The protection of critical undersea infrastructure will form part of the Government's Strategic Defence Review (SDR) by former Nato secretary-general Lord Robertson this year.

It comes after Moscow was linked to a string of apparent sabotage incidents in the Baltic Sea in the past two years, affecting cable and pipeline links. Germany's Nord Stream gas pipelines were also sabotaged in 2022.

Those who live in very densely populated areas with walk ability to corner stores are not necessarily familiar with weather and distances in other parts of the country.

We had 80's last week and snow today. I have no intentions to drive into town today or ask a delivery driver to slither my way.

I haven't seen any evidence that Russia did that.
you would never make a researcher would you ?

es, the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which carried Russian gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea, were damaged by explosions in September 2022, and investigations suggest these were acts of sabotage.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • The Explosions:
In September 2022, a series of explosions ruptured the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which were designed to transport Russian natural gas to Germany.
  • Sabotage:
Seismic data indicated underwater explosions, not natural events, and the damage was consistent with sabotage.

  • Investigations:
Denmark, Sweden, and Germany all opened investigations into the explosions.Denmark and Sweden closed their investigations earlier this year

  • Suspects:
German investigators have focused on a Ukrainian national, Volodymyr Z., who is accused of being part of a team that hired a German yacht to transport explosives and diving equipment to the pipeline location.

  • No Official Claim:
No one has claimed responsibility for the explosions, but the investigations point to a deliberate act of sabotage.

  • Ukraine's Denial:
The Ukrainian government has denied any involvement in the sabotage.

  • International Reactions:
Russia has accused the United States of being behind the explosions, a charge that Washington denies.

  • Methane Release:
The explosions resulted in a significant release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.

  • Political Context:
The explosions occurred as Europe was attempting to wean itself off Russian energy sources following the invasion of Ukraine.

We got a really nice fresh ham Yesterday. Yea.
Parking lots were near MT. Monsoon type weather 5" of rain, lots of stuff flooded.
We couldn't go to Granddaughter's Birthday, Mt. Vernon area roads and streets flooded.

There seems to be a bit of antagonism to your post.

I don't have any reason to familiarize myself with weather conditions and distances in other parts of the country, nor do I live in a densely populated area, nor was I advising other people how to manage affairs where they live, or in certain weather conditions.

If you have no intentions of driving into town today or asking a delivery driver to slither your way, then don't do it. You need to take care of yourself and stay safe.
