What I couldn't get this week shopping

We have been trying to buy our dry cat food for a couple weeks. We have bought it at the "Little General" up the road. They haven't had it, and we have to go to town to search for it ( good for cats, cheap kind, they like it ). We are down to about 3 days left. I bet we have to go find it somewhere. Maybe we could look up the brand online and see if it's in town and where? :)

I am staying home for Thanksgiving...by choice. I went to my grocery store AND to Walmart to see if they had any turkey parts...preferring my favorite a nice leg (drum and thigh). NOPE none. Settled for a whole breast. Not too big. Got all my other things, for stuffing and all. Got a small apple pie too. So,,no Turley leg for me. Will look again near Christmas

“what I couldn’t get the last few we3ks shopping:

A flower pot - a simple indoor flower pot is not even available at Walmart. They said to come try again in the spring🤐🤐. I need it now - the plant is growing.

I have tried several stores in two counties that make sense. I am not running all over creation for an indoor flower pot.

I am also not ordering a flower pot on line. I will, instead, transplant the plant into a mixing bowl I rarely use. Thank goodness I already have potting soil.

If you have a Wegman’s nearby they usually have small packages of parts but the convenience can be a bit pricey. 🍗

Our local supermarket didn't have one carton of eggs....not one! Good thing my son had bought two dozen. We use different eggs....he buys organic, brown, cage free, I usually buy white, whatever is on sale. I will probably only boil one of his eggs and use my egg whites, which I keep in the house, to scramble for breakfast. My son texted me the link to this article today.

I bought 2 dozen eggs at Costco for $6.99 this past week, so $3.50/doz. A couple of days later I saw eggs at Aldi: $7.49/dozen. OUCH!

Fortunately I'm past holiday baking so will need far fewer eggs. I almost never consume eggs after the holidays, but DH likes to make them for his breakfast.

Throughout the holidays I never paid more than $3.50/doz. Costco is the only place I buy them.

A dozen eggs at Toronto grocery store Loblaws, $1.89 CDN, which converts to $1.22 USD. Something is seriously wrong with the prices you quoted in USD, and there were dozens of 12 egg cartons in the refrigerated section this morning when we shopped. JIM.

I just checked a store's prices online.

"Cheapo" eggs are about $3.50 a dozen, but sold out.
Store branded are $4 a dozen.
Cage-free $4.20 to $4.30 (two sizes) a dozen.
Free-range $4, on sale reduced from $6.50 a dozen.
More variations, but that list "brackets" the price range well.

Those "cheapo" eggs went for $0.99 a dozen 4 years ago, but recently had been more like $2.

California? Try Oklahoma please.

Avian flu or not, these egg prices are insane.

Fortunately for me, aside from an occasional egg salad sandwich or French toast, I'm not much of an egg eater. I don't bake, either but I do have a boxed chocolate cake mix I'd been thinking about baking.

I do have a 2 and a half week old dozen plus one single egg in my fridge, so I may do it maybe tomorrow.

Last month I bought 2 packages of powdered egg from Amazon. I don't know much about them yet but am hoarding them.

We're expecting a drastic weather change so I went to Walmart to get some food, and there were no shortages there. What was odd was the aisles that had detergent and dish soap were almost bare.
I did not check on detergent as that is Amazon for us. Food and staples had full shelves at 10:00. With bad weather as of tonight that was mind off odd.

Nilla Wafers. A post here reminded me that I could make an easy dessert for company. No Nillas in any store. Google just told me they haven’t been made since 2022. Obviously I don’t make this dessert often.

I found another brand but the beauty of an Nilla was it was just the right size and fast.

Jules, you can find "Nilla" wafers on Amazon, and The Happy Belly Vanilla Wafers (Amazon brand) are the same size. They also carry 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Vanilla Wafers and Midel Vanilla Snaps. Take a look. To make an icebox cake, you can use almost any cookie.
