I try not to think of the inevitable. I would rather get hit from behind when I'm not looking.
Maybe he will have figured it out by the time he turns 100.
It is a call for helpIām trying to understand the purpose of your post.
Help? What kind of help? Just commiseration? What if he lives till 100 complaining, but in decent help he would have made his last decade & a half harder than necessary. Oh well.It is a call for help
Did you broach the subject of assisted suicide? Did you speak of health issues or being unhappy with the quality of your life? You mentioned "It's so bad the Geriatrician offered a chance to die in 2 or 3 weeks", that statement makes it sound as if you were looking for an exit and he was responding. At 90 years old only 1 out of 5 American men are still alive. At 95 years old only 1 out of 200 men are still alive. I am now at age 90 and are in a strange position with death in my near future. No doctor can do anything about old age.
It is so bad that my Geriatrician offered me a "chance" to stop eating and drinking and die in 2 to 3 weeks. He said he would be "by my side" and advise me every day on what comes next.
I can see why the Spanish explorer, Ponce deLeon, spent so much time searching for the "Fountain of Youth." Too bad he never found it.
I agree because I have meet PLENTY here in Florida in mid 90s who are active , feeling ok and living life .What an attitude! Some doctor you have, there fella.
Florida as you know is a retirement state and though I'm in Miami which is very different then rest of state I can tell you stories about countless older people I have met that are unrealPhysically and financially independent anyone, even over 100 years old can live without Doctor's intervention.
Just around the house(mostly outside) and heavy-load shopping needs someone's help, i.e. adult children living close-by or a nice neighbor.
In the local newspaper, I read one lady, age 102 and one gentleman age 107 live independentaly in her own house and senior facility(WWII veteran).
Just need some adjustments/helps if anyone reaches over age 85 and 90,
Help him to say noHelp? What kind of help?
I think it starts a bit later than that. I've heard that our brains aren't fully formed until our early twenties. We are literally dying from the time we are born. Get rid of your doctor and enjoy what you can. I do not know what your health issues areā¦but most people can find awe and wonder in each day. The sky is incredibly blue. Bees are a flying wonder. How can water exist in three forms? Take a breathā¦someday it will be your lastā¦but not today.
As addicted to texting .Kids / adults cross the street without looking the other way all the time!
When my late husband got cancer at age 75(just turned one month ago),both MEDICARE and BCBS provided generously, but his late stage of his cancer, all medical accesses, doctor's visit and ER was denied. My solution is just lose myself in playing chess at Chess.com and Civilization VI at Steam.com!
It's sad to read about your late husband's story. But sometimes we just have to let things go. There are young people died of cancer too, their lives were too short, but...When my late husband got cancer at age 75(just turned one month ago),both MEDICARE and BCBS provided generously, but his late stage of his cancer, all medical accesses, doctor's visit and ER was denied.
As his caregiver, I asked Hospice care to provide him with some relief for his endless pain,
They kept telling me 'give him more Morphine, morphine, morphine, ... practically that strongest pain med. killed him within hours. Unfortunately, he was not 'peaceful death.' He knew his death was imminent, but he did not go to the Heaven. He wanted to stay on this Earth to enjoy his retirement.
He had no any sit-down hobby, just work, work that was his priority.
It's good to know that you have an excellent hobby to enjoy to lose yourself, even though your wife misses terribly that occurs.
