What have you bought recently?

Two pair of Haggar pants at Kohls. Tried to get something cheaper but those Haggar casuals had the right fit, feel, and material as the last ones I purchased like ... many years ago. Nearly $100 total with tax.

Amazon bought a new $21 evolution/DNA science paper book and within the last 3 days have received 2 books as they mistakenly machine packaged and sent twice. Over a couple sessions so far as something technical, I purposely read slowly, and may read sections several times, am now on page 38 of 150...
------------------

The name of the book is Understanding Living Systems by famous British scientist brothers, Raymond and Denis Noble. After reading a bit more aborted after realizing the book was merely a thorough refutation that he had publicly debating at Oxford with also famous atheist Richard Dawkins who wrote the The Selfish Gene book decades ago and has since the rise of more recent DNA gene expression research been shown to be greatly overstated as evolution is much more than merely about genes.

I naively impatiently bought the book without adequate web searching because I hoped it would enlighten me more about gene expression work as I have for a long time thought creature species evolution is advancing much too rapidly to only be due to occasional genetic defects with mating DNA sperm and egg narratives. Actually so did Darwin but his theory was hijacked by subsequent bullying more rigid scientists that were more intent in distancing themselves from Young Earth Creationist critics that were far more active at the time.

We visited the Aldi Aisle of Shame and a garden center. The $500 I gave myself for the garden? It's down to $345.

However...Aldi had the potting bench that I've been jonesing for. It'll get assembled tomorrow because...tired.

The garden center? There was nothing I had to have, but those plants...I swear...they leap right off the display tables and into the cart. What's a body to do? Their feelings will be hurt if they get put back.

The list of plants that I still need is getting shorter, and the garden is getting prettier.

I almost bought a thing at $88.88, a pretty good deal but I didn't need it and the quality is a crapshoot on something you haven't found reliable reviews for.

Yesterday it rose to $139.99, making up my mind to pass it by. :ROFLMAO:

Was feeling pretty good after going to the produce store and spending only $28.68. Then went to Costco and dropped $249. EEK.

Well, maybe not so bad now that I look at the receipt:
$68 for various Ozzy-dog foods that will last him about 6 months.
$40 went to 2 more cans of decaf ground coffee (which jumped $2/can in less than a month). I now have about 10 month's worth of coffee, so am good for a while. Hedge against inflation.
$30 went for a case of Pacifico beer. Mostly a hedge against tariffs, since it's Mexican beer. It'll last through all our RV trips this year, and then some.
$22 for a jumbo pack of Kirkland TP, which I was pretty sure we bought last time, but DH was pretty sure we hadn't. (Turned out we did, so we'll be in good stock on that for a while.)
$13 for some backup Canadian ❤️ 🇨🇦❤️ maple syrup to stock the pantry before tariffs hit.

So $173 of the $249 went to long-term or future needs.

I don't feel nearly as EEK about it now. (Rationalizing is one of my super-skills!)

Did I mention Fence panels ?.. I just counted up how much I've spent this week which will include my oil change tomorrow,.. and it's eye wateringly close to £1500.... Jeez ... and its not like I've frittered any away ...everything ( maybe not the blouses but they were in the sale ).. but everything , was needed...

Some small canvases and a palette from Flying Tiger. Got on the bike yesterday - it's now daylight until 7.45 pm, such a relief to be able to go outside after work! - and rode into town, bought those, and then home by a longer route.
I used to love flying Tiger, but they dont sell the variety of stationary they used to, so altho' I always go in if I'm passing one, I rarely buy anything now...

Do you buy much online?

Do you prefer to shop in the brick & mortar stores...?

Did you recently get a great bargain, or feel you've paid too much for something ?

Come and share what you've bought in either ....

This week we bought a new Electric telescopic Pole tree saw.. .. which arrived today..alongside a gallon of oil for it..

Still waiting for half the order to arrive even tho' we paid for a specific date for delivery
I buy a lot online, the choice of products is so much better.
I prefer online over brick and mortar unless I need something immediately and I know the local store has it in stock.
These days I don't really consider much of anything to be a bargain. The post COVID and inflated prices of late make everything look way overpriced. However, I needed new ink for my HP printer and Amazon had a generic replacement guaranteed to work and it was half the price of HP ink. I took a chance on it and works every bit as good as the HP ink and it had no problem bypassing the propriety issues normally associated with HP (and many other printers.) They like you to buy their incredibly expensive ink.
My most recent purchases were hardware for a few projects and some cleaning products for the car.

I've noticed a drop in the delivery service from Amazon. Often, when I think a package will arrive the next day it gets rescheduled to a later date. That was quite rare a few years ago but I think a lot of people started using Amazon more during the COVID days and just stayed with it. Perhaps they never upgraded their delivery system.

I think we're lucky still in the Uk with Amazon despite the fact that the majority use it.. that we still on occasion get same day deliveries if we're using Prime, and certainly next day for definite...

not a creationist scientist then??

I've been in the market for a new wallet. I was in Wal-Mart and gave a look and saw one that was just what I was looking for.
Slim, the right slots and compartments, pretty cherry red, and $6.97. I checked and it was made in Vietnam, not China, which felt better. It felt like leather even though it was man made. Two left so I bought it.
Mind you , I didn't mind paying much more for what I wanted but it fit the bill.
Later, I was at the BX and they sell brands like Michael Kors, etc. and saw a similar cherry red wallet that said "genuine leather". It was nice but I didn't even investigate. I like the one I bought in Wal-Mart very much! Nice stitching too.

I like tht colour... I have to admit I don't use purses ( that's what they're called here )... instead I prefer credit card wallets.. ...which hold a lot of cards..

I use this one currently.. which is cowhide... ... I bought it so Amazon tells me.. 3 years ago... but I never take it out with me, the majority of my cards stay in the wallet at home when I got out, and I keep just 2 cards in my pocket

I've deleted my payment methods with Ama$on. Prefer to order from suppliers or buy things in person.

if you can find them to buy in person... even our biggest D-I-Y stores are now telling us they're not stocking stuff in their warehouses, and to order online...

I can sit here and order a half dozen things that would cost me x amount in petrol to get to a town that might have stores that sell 1/2 of what I want..MIGHT... and then I have to drive to another town to trawl around the stores ... not for me.. not now at this age..

I like shopping but i don't like that fact now that you can look on a stores website , see they stock something then when you get there..they say to order it online..nope not for me...

I need that! I just switched to my smaller summer purse and my fat wallet makes an unsightly lump in it. I'll be looking for that very thing.

I know what you mean - the loss of Wilko and of Clas Ohlson before it was a real annoyance. Those stores sold things you might need any time, and were in town centres, so no need to drive out of town (not that I drive anyway).
