This is incredible.. to think the world is at risk beause 2 people are at odds with each other in the same lab

A US government lab studying the world's deadliest diseases been shut down over safety concerns after a spat between two scientists who were romantically involved.

Speaking anonymously, an HHS source revealed that one of the researchers poked a hole in the other's protective equipment during a vicious 'lovers' spat'.
Dr Connie Schmaljohn, the lab's director, was also placed on administrative leave after she allegedly failed to report the incident to other officials.

The taxpayer-funded Integrated Research Facility in Frederick, Maryland, works with lethal viruses like Ebola and lassa fever.

The shutdown was ordered after HHS officials became aware of the incident. Viruses have reportedly been locked away with padlocks while the facility and its staff are investigated.

HHS officials said: 'NIH has implemented a research pause—referred to as a safety stand-down—at the Integrated Research Facility at Fort Detrick.

'This decision follows identification and documentation of personnel issues involving contract staff that compromised the facility’s safety culture, prompting this research pause.'

They added: 'During the stand-down, no research will be conducted, and access will be limited to essential personnel only, to safeguard the facility and its resources.'

An HHS source anonymously told Fox News that the shutdown was related to a lover's spat.

The shutdown was ordered to start from 5pm on April 29, and to continue until officials were satisfied that the lab was safe.

The lab is one of only about a dozen BSL-4 labs in the US, or those with clearance to work on the most infectious and deadly pathogens known to man.

US Ebola lab placed on safety shutdown over 'lover's spat'

I live about an hour away from Frederick. I have heard nothing on the news about this, which seems strange if it is true. Found nothing on Google about it either. I think Blessed may be right.

There's a piece about the shutdown on Wired, (I see Holly has linked it) It says JFK ordered the shutdown in order to examine the usefulness of their research and mentioned some personnel problems but weren't specific about them.

Moss did not elaborate on the nature of the personnel issues and said he did not know how long the research pause would last. Staff have not received an anticipated reopening date.

I am not ready to bite on this one. So, many strange things are going on over here. I just glanced over the articles. One said this happened 4/29, I can't believe it would not have been on every news channel. Let's say I don't watch FOX.
why are you in such denial ?.. despite all the proof to the contrary , this is exactly how Covid started with the Chinese in total denial....

We can't really discuss this, because it ventures into political territory. All I can say is, examine the source, notice whose name is prominently mentioned, and look at the news outlets. Remember that every little traffic accident gets prominent publicity; yet, no one here has heard anything about this, apparently? I remain skeptical until I see/hear something about it from a reputable news source.

No-one has heard anything about this ?... that's not true because half the world has heard about it as I've proven in my links to various news outlets... just you in the US haven't heard anyting about it, now I wonder why that would be?>..lemme think ?

By the way......

Lassa fever
Lassa fever is a severe and potentially fatal viral hemorrhagic disease endemic to West Africa. It's spread to humans through contact with the urine or droppings of infected Mastomys rodents, which are common in rural areas of West and Central Africa.

While many infections are asymptomatic, symptoms can include fever, weakness, headaches, vomiting, muscle pains, sore throat, oral ulcers, chest and abdominal pain.

I worked security years ago and can't count the number of times work place romances caused chaos and shutdowns. I remember one in particular where we kept escorting a married guy an employee out for harassing his married lover an employee off the property. Till he snuck in and killed her.

One reason some of us are skeptical about the reason for the shutdown is that lots of people in high government positions have been fired recently and the reasons are often sketchy.

Example: Just a few days ago the woman who was in charge of the library of congress was fired. The reason given to the press by Karoline Leavitt, White House Spokesperson, was that she had been giving inappropriate books to children.

No one under the age of 16 can enter the Library of Congress and no one enters without special permission. It is not open to the general public.

Curious and curiouser, said Alice.

For what it is worth, I did a search on the photograph and came up with the name of the research facility and the scientists that are working there - National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick. It confirms ebola as one of the diseases being studied.

I have managed to find a report in Forbes that confirms the shutdown and the contributor is a Dr Mark Kortepeter.

NIH Lab Studying Deadly Pathogens Goes Offline Over Safety Issues. Is The Public At Risk?

Mark Kortepeter, M.D. is an infectious disease and public health physician and professor. He has covered Covid-19, bioweapons and infectious disease outbreaks, including plague, measles and listeria. He has particular experience and expertise in bioweapon defense and especially deadly pathogens, such as Ebola virus. He is a veteran and the author of Inside the Hot Zone, a suspenseful thriller about his experiences managing outbreak crises at the Army’s “hot” lab. The first thing that comes to mind is a coverup, but there are still responsible journalists, if maybe only a minority by now in the US, and with all the chatter overseas, someone from here is probably looking into it right now. I'm still in a wait and see mode.
