What did you buy that turn out to be crummy?

A Skoda.... Skoda consistently score high on the best small car Polls in all the motor magazines.. they're supposed to be pretty much problem free..... unless you buy one as I did that rolled off the production line at 5pm on a Friday....

What a piece of garbage that was.... to this day I feel nauseous when I pass one...

~The Jane Fonda walk to the music fitness treadmill. After trying six ways to Sunday to adjust it and holding on to it for a couple of years, I finally put it on the garbage. I paid $400 for that thing too!

~Ragu spaghetti sauce. I don't know how that mess got to be so popular. I tried doctoring it up.

~I love the hazelnut flavor but was very disappointed with Nutella. Also I bought Cafe Le Rou hazelnut coffee flavor-er from Amazon. Used it once and didn't like the taste.

~My first pair of wireless headphones. No bluetooth back then. They cost about $130 and the range was fantastic, but they crapped out in a relatively short period of time.

I had to think about this. But there was only one real winner- a 1980 Yugo car. I had it for about 6 months, and it spent more time in the shop than I did driving it. I would be driving along and it would just die. It was a hatchback, and the rear window was heated-that was to keep your hands warm when you were pushing it. I can't tell you the times it was towed back to the dealership.
I really didn't want to sell it, because I knew it would wind up in a museum as one of the world's worst cars.

Craft sticks. We use them for spreading stuff on things in the kitchen. The last batch we bought were so thin as to actually be flexible. They're wooden sticks for crying out loud. Thankfully, we've used those up and have started another, much better, batch.

A used car that needed a new engine about the time I made the first payment on it. The dealership did step up and "fix it". Unfortunately it then lasted about a year before crapping out and I was told by their laughting technician that it needed a new engine, again. Only time in my life that I did not pay for something I had on credit. I told them to keep the car and despite all their threats I refused to pay another penny.

Added to clarify - This was one of those places that do sales, financing and repair all themselves on premises.

In mid-April we had our new Frigidaire refrigerator with an ice maker & water delivered. The ice maker worked for a about a month & then stopped. So far the ice maker has been replaced 3 times & the last time another component was also changed at the same time. It's still not working. The same local repair man authorized for service told us he can't do anything else & the factory needs to send out one of their service teams to look at it. It's been a week since we called Frigidaire customer service for the fourth request for service & was told a team member would call to schedule. Still waiting for the call back.

do you have a consumer law there ?

We have the right to reject items that are not fit for purpose

here's a small part of our consumer law rights..

30-day right to reject:
You have the initial right to reject the faulty item and get a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

  • Beyond 30 days, but within six months:
While the initial 30-day right to reject is gone, the law still presumes the fault was present when you bought it. You can still ask for a repair or replacement.

  • Repair or replacement:
If a repair or replacement is possible, the retailer can choose the option that's cheapest or easiest for them. However, if the repair/replacement is unsuccessful, you can then ask for a refund (full or partial).
