Jerry Lee was a good musician, but he fell off the map pretty much about the time he married a 13 year old. In Chicago, I heard nothing but disdain from the DJs who once played his songs. I did hear an occasional but disregardable cheap defense, from defenders saying that they do things different down south. Then I heard he had turned Gospel and I remembered and loved his old songs, but I never heard him sing his songs about Jesus. I think some DJs in Chicago quit playing his music.Wow, RPG.
And yet when Jerry Lee Lewis died nothing but complimentary things were said about him here. Even though Jerry Lee was married seven times, once to a 13 year old girl, is believed by people close to him to have murdered two of those wives, shot his bass player in the stomach, tried to call out Elvis for a gun fight at Graceland, and called Chuck Berry, "boy."
The first time I ever saw him on TV I got up, went to the bathroom, and vomited. That was my gut level reaction to the slime ball.
Yet, no one said a bad word about him, just his cousin for being with a prostitute that time.
Jerry Lee Lewis: A toxic cocktail of scandal, addiction and violence
Then I Iost track completely. He might have well as been dead. In fact, I didn't know he even was dead until I read your post. I still love his old music today. He could have had a longer much more productive career, I think. He was good at music, not so much on PR.
