Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart has passed

Wow, RPG.

And yet when Jerry Lee Lewis died nothing but complimentary things were said about him here. Even though Jerry Lee was married seven times, once to a 13 year old girl, is believed by people close to him to have murdered two of those wives, shot his bass player in the stomach, tried to call out Elvis for a gun fight at Graceland, and called Chuck Berry, "boy."

The first time I ever saw him on TV I got up, went to the bathroom, and vomited. That was my gut level reaction to the slime ball.

Yet, no one said a bad word about him, just his cousin for being with a prostitute that time.
Jerry Lee Lewis: A toxic cocktail of scandal, addiction and violence
Jerry Lee was a good musician, but he fell off the map pretty much about the time he married a 13 year old. In Chicago, I heard nothing but disdain from the DJs who once played his songs. I did hear an occasional but disregardable cheap defense, from defenders saying that they do things different down south. Then I heard he had turned Gospel and I remembered and loved his old songs, but I never heard him sing his songs about Jesus. I think some DJs in Chicago quit playing his music.

Then I Iost track completely. He might have well as been dead. In fact, I didn't know he even was dead until I read your post. I still love his old music today. He could have had a longer much more productive career, I think. He was good at music, not so much on PR.

Was Swaggart one of these happy clappy christians? I've never heard of him. I do remember a couple of Yenk evangelists on TV here, a husband and wife, she wore a lot of makeup, and they were always asking for money, can't remember their names but I don't think it was Swaggart.

Jim Bakker and wife. I often wondered why she, a Chistian?, felt it necessary to gunk up her face. He was sent to jail for whatever & I think she then tried preaching on her own.

For those who legitimately/honestly believe in Yehway(God) and legitimately/honestly have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, don't sweat the negative viewpoints that you've been conned. Or that Christianity is the harbinger of most of the troubles destroying countries. Relax, go on living your life as best you can in following God's Word as told in the Holy Bible. Even true Christians make mistakes. Being Christian doesn't make you're immune to messing up, but God is always with you to forgive you when you ask to be forgiven. 🌞

He once said passengers are told to get on a plane. NO WAY, he said, am I getting on a plane, I'm getting IN it. lol Now that was funny, too bad he went cheap when he took the easy route for easy laughs by pleasing atheists by mocking the Word of God. sigh

George Carlin was spot on. As usual. The Mark Twain of our time, but funnier.
Atheistically spot on. He knew what jokes to tell atheists what they'll love to hear, & watch them come runnin' and their money come pouring in.

My favorite George Carlin quote:

"If you want to understand how stupid the people of our country are, just think how stupid the "average" person is. Then, remember that
half the population is even stupider than that."

That kind of says it all. It explains how people have been scared into believing all the nonsense about heaven and hell. It explains how they
believe that God needs their money. And they know so little about the size and mystery of the universe that they believe that the tiny speck of dust that we live on matters to some big boss up in the sky who is watching us, in the midst of trillions of other stars and planets, and rewarding or punishing us as if we were naughty children. And that He is obsessed with a set of rules imposed on some evolved apes who are doing their (our) best to destroy their planet.

The only thing that is truly impressive about all this is the fact that so many people living in this day and age are still naive enough to be taken in by all these con men, especially when preached by the likes of Jimmy Swaggart. George Carlin was right.

Whoo wee! Are you way off the mark about there not being God(I AM). But believers and nonbelievers can still manage to get along peacefully. Oh, btw, why would GOD need money? Preachers, good and bad yeah, to pay for expences of what it costs to preach on T V or in their churches & also pay homer expenses--phoney preachers to pay for personal wants, hot shot clothes, cars, personal planes and so on.

As a child, I attended a church service with my grandmother & thought I heard that God was to be feared. I got angry and said that if we are to fear Him I want nothing to do with Him. 'Course as I became an adult and learned that consequences of sinning are to be feared, NOT God. God gives us rules on how to best live our lives because he doesn't want us to suffer bad consequences.

There are apologetics to explain this claim so that Christians can reject it at face value. Yours is a good or bad as any. My Lutheran minister told our confirmation class that "feared" means "loved." I never heard that one again. I don't know what others are floating around. I'm not that interested in it.

Me neither. I just keep the beliefs I've gained and pray I'm never fooled by anything against God's Word and fall for it. Not all disagreements concerning what God's Word, means that one of them is wrong, it is just coming from a different angle of thinking--so to speak.

Right, but there is God.
The "burden of proof" rests with the person making a statement that something exists. Anyone questioning what that person claims does NOT have to prove that it is not true.

You claim that you are the Queen of Transylvania. Do I have to prove that you are not?

I could say that anything is true. Santa Claus exists. We see pictures of him every Christmas. The tooth fairy exists. Ask any kid who left a tooth for her, and found money the next day. Do we have to believe their fairy tales, just because they told them, or someone wrote them down in a book thousands of years ago?

The only facts that I believe are those that are proven or provable. And I mean scientifically provable, not just something that someone once said.

But Jerry Lee never pretended to be pure.

I don't know that Jimmy Swaggert pretended to be "pure," either, just because someone believes in Jesus doesn't mean they're pure themselves.

But then I'm not one who ever thought "owning it" was an excuse for anything.

Bryan Kohberger isn't pretending he didn't murder those 4 students. I don't like him any better for having confessed.
