Could a 90 Year Old Man Benefit from Weight Lifting?

It’s never too late to start improving yourself!

Maybe instead of traditional weights, try resistance bands.

Yes, you could benefit from weight lifting at your age.
An exercise routine would be beneficial to improve your balance, cardio, strength, and flexibility. Consult a physician prior to start to exercise.
YouTube offer an excellent choice of exercise routines for all ages. You might like to start with one offered by Silver Sneakers.
Joining a gym is also a great way to exercise, being social, as well as remaining motivated.

I personally think there is some benefit. It seems to help my back, but I would advise against pushing your self for that one last rep that you almost can't get. Having said that, I read from a presumed knowledgeable expert, that you cannot add muscle mass after the age of 80. Of course, everyone is different so there may be some wiggle room there. But at some age, there is probably a point for everyone where risk outweighs benefit.

I'm 90 years old and getting bored just playing chess at Chess.com and Civilization VI at Steam.com. What other games are great to play? I like war games. I was thinking of lifting weights to break the boredom. What do you folks think?
Better start with no more than two pound weights if you have not been active. Work on up from there and never overdo it Mitch.
Get enough protein too. And get you're doctor's ok please.

Yes ,but join an exercise club but only join if they would match you with an exercise trainer who has demonstrated the knowledge to work with someone with your age and condition. The admins will probably ask you to bring a clearance from your doctor so maybe work on that first.

I've been in Cardiac Rehab for a few weeks now and was shocked to see how out of condition I had become. My trainer is very slowly building my strength so my opinion is yes, do it with professional guidance. Aunt Bea's exercises posted above are very good as well as going out for walk to chat with others.

I recommend Luminosity. These are math and language games that evaluate your cognition--speed, memory, attention, flexibility, and problem solving, The annual cost is US $59.99 to play on a daily basis and get scored; you can also practice all the games at any time not to count as your daily score.
