Ladies (and gents?) as a child did you play with dolls?

I had a Raggedy Ann, Betsy Wetsy, Barbie, paper dolls, and what we called a "Bride Doll". The Bride Doll was the largest and it had on a beautiful yellow (?) dress. It was too pretty to actually play with. Mostly, I just looked at it with envy; I wanted a dress like that! And my Auntie bought me one. Too dressy for school or any place else. I would cry when my Mother wouldn't let me wear it to school. I would just wear it around the house.

The Betsy Wetsy was probably the favorite. I will never forget waking up one morning, looking out my bedroom window and there she was naked, hanging from a tree. My brothers. @oslooskar, you can't be one of them since those two are long gone. Those same brothers also put a snake in my bed. To this day, I hate snakes! Wasn't ever too wild about my brothers, either.

No, never! As a kid I played with cap guns, BB guns, sling shots and good ole bow and arrows that we all made at home. No, I'm not a gun nut at all; actually I am a very strong pacifist!

My nephew had become attached to one of my granddaughter's babydolls (they were almost twins, so this must have been at about two years old). I bought him a nice little boy doll and he had a great time with it. I'm not sure his father approved of it, though.

It's a pity that boys aren't encouraged to play with dolls. Playing with dolls helps children work out problems and family/friend relationships. If you listen to a child playing with a doll, you'll hear a lot of interesting things. You might even hear yourself as they talk to the doll like you talk to them. I could hear what my daughter was saying to her dolls and I DID hear myself....it gave me some pause for thought.

I remember having one doll which the only interest I had in it was to paint its fingernails. I'd also pull its arms away from its body to peek inside it to see what held the arms, legs and head together. I sure gave no sign I'd make a loving mother. lol

Dolls? No.

But I did have an Action Man. Which is a doll by a different name. :D

I had my Action Man until one day when positioning him to shoot some invisible enemy, I noticed a piece of elastic attached to his upper thigh. I got a pair of scissors - for no other reason that children are curious - and cut it. That was a mistake, because his arms and legs fell off.

No, I always disliked dolls, thought they were creepy.

No dolls, that would have been weird! But I did have a bunch of those small rubber army guys that I fought many a battle with. They were great fun. My dad fought in WWII and his stories always inspired me to go fight a few more battles...
