Americans Traveling To Europe Will Be Fingerprinted

Why is it a problem? Malaysia takes a copy of your thumb when you enter the country. So what?

What are you doing that makes giving your fingerprint a problem?

Doesn't your passport have a photo of your face? Why isn't that a problem?
Who are you addressing? I haven't traveled to or from anywhere that this was a requirement therefore didn't know that it ever was, ergo the post and the question that simply asked your thoughts?
@Aunt Bea

Starting October 12th of this year, the ruling takes affect. I never desired to visit Europe, so it won't affect me. Read on:
Americans Will Have To Get Fingerprinted Traveling To Europe Starting October 12
Your thoughts?
If I, a citizen of the United Kingdom (outside of the European Union) visit the U.S., I have my fingerprints taken. My additional thoughts are, why hasn't the UK started taking the fingerprints of U.S. citizens visiting the UK.

It seems to me that the EU is modernising border checks to fall in line with the U.S. system.

Is this old news though? Didn't the EU introduce this last year? Not this year, as you say? Or might it have been for most of the rest of the world first, and applied to U.S citizens last.

What might my thoughts be on the EU, and parts of the wider world, finally catching up with the U.S. on this matter? I’m still wondering…

So now not only will I be fingerprinted when visiting the U.S., but as of October last year, fingerprinted in the E.U. too.
The only question left is, which government or government organisations do I trust less with my personal data? The EU or US?

With so many U.S. citizens distrusting their own government, regardless of which party is in power, it does make me wonder who to distrust the least.

At least my own government in the UK doesn't seem to be interested in my fingerprints -- so that's good.

So glad I did my back packing and travel when I was younger. For example, I have visited Poland 8 times and the USSR 4 times. Now, I don't want to go to Europe and have to pay some sort of tax to enter a city or get sprayed by water pistols in cities like Barcelona. Best to stay in Canada where we have room to roam wild and free even though right now it's full of smoke.

Thanks for letting us know @OneEyedDiva! We arrive in Athens on October 10, but even if we were arriving on October 12 I'm still not bothered by it. Unless I have to apply for a visa to visit a particular country I don't view anything as an arduous process. It is electronic. I already have to do facial recognition just to leave DFW. It's much quicker than the old method of scanning my passport.

With the current state of things, I'm more concerned about my brown Filipino hubby getting back into the states!

I gave my thoughts on the question. Surely that's not a problem?
Your thoughts? Seems to me you asked questions and used the pronoun "you", ergo me asking you who you were addressing? don't get it twisted! Me responding with a question as to who you were addressing isn't a problem unless you make it one.
