This reminds me when we lived in Florida many years ago. Door to door trick or treating wasn't safe with so many transitional neighbors. But the township, churches and stores all got together for different parties and parades. But I remember one church that made it very clear they were not hosting a Halloween party.
It was a "Fall Festival" with costumes and candy anyway gofigya. Give me a break. Halloween is for the kids, they aren't reading anything satanic into it...just a lot of fun dressing up, playing games, and lots of candy. For the parents who are offended let them keep their kids home. Although I pity those kids. I signed this petition. And I spelled the state wrong...I'm going to jump now...
 

Churches have always viewed Halloween as pagan... I work for a religious organization and we are not allowed to wear any jewelry or shirts with a Halloween theme.. so it's not new... However, public schools have always had Halloween parties and costumes.. I remember it being so much fun... what a shame for kids to miss that.

Good for them reinstating it. Just an FYI, Halloween has nothing to do with satanism. It is the Pagan holiday Samhain and Pagans do not believe in satan so can't be satanists. :D

I remember a few years ago some uproar when some schools in Wales banned Harry Potter books in fear they'd all want to become witches. I was surprised at this as that sounds more like American south schools.
 
Aaarrgh! Hallowe'en! Bah! Humbug!

I'm happy for Americans and the whole of the Northern Hemisphere to celebrate the night before All Saints Day BUT I'm not happy that it is infiltrating the Great South Land. It is alien and doesn't belong here.

I grew up in a relatively conservative Protestant church and the youth groups ALWAYS had Halloween parties in the 1950's and 1960's in the Fellowship Hall. We came as mummies, vampires, monsters, etc. I don't remember anybody getting their Fruit of the Looms in a twist about it. I remember even having a vampire in a real casket one year (we had a funeral director in the church and he sent over an old casket for us to use.)

My daughter and granddaughter went to Methodist church-based day care centers and they had Halloween parties. They just asked that costumes be "friendly" - princesses, cowboys (no guns), clowns, firemen......no monsters, no ninjas, no zombies.

I'm going to be vampire this year. Yee-haw!
 
My dog has his hot dog costume, my daughter has a baby costume and her uncle?...Well his default costume is pirate but he gets real creative sometimes. We trick or treat in his neighborhood. Really wonderful goodies plus everyone knows him so we have fun socializing too.

We didn't get involved with Halloween during our church years and our kids never missed anything. There was a dress up party to the church (no rubber axes in the head please), they got a huge selection of candy from me and dad and they got to pick a movie and a dinner where they chose. They were thrilled and never envied their friends.

Well, I'm going out and if I get to your door you had better have some good treats or there will be tricks, and you won't like them, especially if you have a clothes line...
 
I went to a Catholic school in Florida in the early 60s and the nuns and priest were Irish. Very strict. But we were not given homework on Halloween so we could go out trick or treating.

Only thing for me as well! Scaring 7 year olds with burning forever in hell if they commit mortal sins is not forgivable IMO. I quit going to church at 18.

Don't understand why people talk about pagans like they are evil. They haven't done human sacrifices in about 1,000 years or more.

Haha! I used to have an altar and a hooded robe and paraphernalia. Although some people needed certain types of spells cast on them, my rituals were all innocent.

I don't either. I'm unlabeled. But in the 90's I became very interested in Celtic Paganism. I lean toward Zen Buddhism now, or at least try to put some of their teachings into practice.
