I'm the same in both reality and online world, except that I tend to be quieter in real life. I don't initiate conversations, and I don’t reach out unless someone does it first.

I'm basically the same. I probably tend to share a bit more online than I do in person because it's relatively anonymous. "Anonymous" isn't really the word I'm looking for; what I really mean is that it's highly doubtful I'll meet anyone from here in person. So that makes it easier for me to open up. Plus I feel I have more in common with a lot of people here than I do with anyone I know here in ND.

I think of before the internet there were only real people or the phone. That was for about 40 years more or less, we grew up with it. We have lived with the Internet for about 30 years. Our whole culture changed, and we adjusted to the Internet.And it has definitely changed our culture and all of us too.

Good question, and I think for most people - no.
There is a level of artifice on the net that changes the dynamics. I think a lot of social niceties, for example, are cast aside. Some normal social interactions don't really exist online. For example simple things like saying "good morning", or "how are the kids?", or "that's a nice dress". These things just don't happen.
Online discussions can also become incendiary much faster than in real life. I mean, if you go to a party, how often does the "Is there a God?" come up? Let alone politics, or many other topics. It's just not normal conversation. So we adapt, change in our interactions.
One could argue that our actual personality isn't changing in these circumstances, but I think it actually exaggerates bits of of our personality. In real life I think it's usual to be more level, and certainly more polite.

Indeed, misrepresentation is a no-no. At least, I don't really see the point (if people do it simply for entertainment then I'd hope they could find better ways to have fun). Mind you, there are some people I see online where I hope they are misrepresenting themselves.
