What is required in your opinion to refer to a powerful intelligent entity as a "god"?

And what happened to them? They became bored only after getting receiving response from the same few regardless of how much they baited others that were ignoring them. And after a month or three are gone from the board, not to return.
I don't think, in those situations, that they get bored. But rather they realized the futility of discussion with people who think their opinions are the only ones that matter.

O K I get your opinion of David777. Don't agree but I get it.
So what is your opinion of the topic>

If I actually met and intelligent entity worthy of the name were proven to exist, I would refer to it as a god. But the term "actually met," I define as "actually met."

Makes sense.
I was questioning what poster DHH opinion was.

Yes, I know that, but having the topic heading in bold font in front of my face, inspired me to comment. At least it was still relevant to the original topic more or less. Not saying others were not. I probably could have just made a quick response that wasn't directed to anyone in particular.

If he says he's God or a god and demonstrates his powers over nature and the universe and my wellbeing, I think I'd take him at his word, but he could be merely a heavenly P. T. Barnum.

For me there is no criteria by which I'd ever classify a being as "a god", no matter how powerful, because I believe "gods" is an empty set. I would only call the the totality of being God but I don't conceive of that as any kind of being in its own right. I just think God is inside both us and everything else that exists as the ground of being.

Doesn't mean I think everyone should agree with me. Why would they?

we have a range of descriptors for 'things' or 'beings' outside of our own normal realm and use the words Gods: Spirits: Ghosts etc etc - is there possible a hierarchy perhaps from God to Ghosts not forgetting of course the Devil ; Demons etc etc - but we do seem able to draw a distinction in our own minds and others between the positive and negative sides of spiritual domains? And then just to muddy the waters more in Genesis Ch1 v 26 we read let us make man in our image in our likeness?

nb: and who are the "us" referred to?

Marvel Comics has that hierarchy down even better than the ancient Greeks. It goes from Men to Super-Man, Titan, Celestial, and Gods. There were a few types between Super-Man and Titan for which Marvel may have not given a classification. For example, Ronan the Accuser was a Kree, whatever that was. And Drax the Destroyer was a something or other.

Christian theologians interpret the "us" in Genesis 1:26 is a reference to to the "Trinity," a doctrine which holds that God is one in three persons: God the Father; God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. So, in this verse, God the Father is speaking to the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Well, ponder this......
If a powerful entity set off the Big Bang and became everything in the universe, then you and I are god.
If I get to be a god, I get dibs on being the god of love. 😍

But if that is taken, I'll be the god of war. 🎖️

Guess that says something about my personality conflicts.

Be careful what you wish for. The god of love is a very busy position. People are always praying for you to work you to do the impossible, sometimes against all odds.
Now that I think of it though, the god of war isn't much different. Both sides are praying to win, and having to decide is a lot of pressure.
You may want to try being a god assistant or junior god first and see if you like it.

That "us" scripture, is a key reason I lean towards the Christian God being a member of a race of ancient UIEs that do not have Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent powers. My speculation is, they never correct what humans call them or write scripture about them, but likely gave Moses visions and left alone however he described and whatever later authorities wrote about such. Such advanced entities would have little reason to try to correct non-science primitives like we humans of that era, as that would just lead to endless like corrections.

In the future, if humans ever complain that we have been misled, they no doubt have "video like" recordings of how that happened that they may one day show how all the other explanations are simply from men. I also suspect there are other worlds that have had intelligent organic species arise, and they learned long ago that was the better strategy. One needs to understand, if our fine tuned Big Bang universe is 13.6 billion years old with billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars, that it is astronomically unlikely if there are indeed UIE's, that they waited all that time just for we Earth monkeys to appear, haha.

Okay, maybe I'll start with the god of football. The stakes aren't as high. ;) and I get summers off.

The OT and NT books are full of images of the Divine in everyday terms.

God is like... a mother hen, a potter, fire, a woman weeping, a woman searching for a lost coin, a shepherd, a forgiving father, lawgiver and many more.

All of these images are attempts to explain the inexplicable. For me God is akin to an energy that is everywhere and is in all life in this universe. For me, God is within me and also outside of me. God is strength when I need strength and comfort when I am desolate.

At the end of every Sunday service my congregation departs with the words, "We go in God, and God in us". These are not empty words. They are an affirmation of the imminence and eminence of God.

yes I get the point you make -but.........................I'd like to read their job descriptions!

Ah so we've all turned to guessing now? - well I'm just sorta watchin? - but really just a guessing game or real hard scientific studies - anyone?

did you know that the bible states man and woman for that matter were originally immortal [Genesis Ch 2] like God him/herself and for disobeying an instruction of God were literally forced into mortality only? - Ref: The Fall of Man - Genesis chapter three - great story could make a great film if not already done so? lots of us may read this at our normal speeds and may err or get muddled or not fully understand. Takes slow careful reading possible several times did for me?

I'd like to be a Sex God. Well, maybe someone younger would be better.
That would be pretty great. You would get a lot of credit without having to do anything.
(Oh God ! .......Oh God ! ..... Oh God ! ..... Ohhhhhh.)

You would probably always get a trophy at the annual God award banquet for the most happy endings.
