Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

In the meantime, the hot seed has just arrived so when husband wakes up from his nap he will load the feeder and we'll see how it works. Fingers crossed.

Husband is also envisioning something with chicken wire to deter them if the hot seed isn't enough.

I don't have pictures yet today as they have all been of squirrels. 😭

I'm glad you got this one today.
Kinda makes it all worthwhile, right?☺️🤩😉

A reward for your efforts and your patience. 🥰
Yes, it's definitely worth it. :)
We didn't get to put the hot seed in today because it's been rainy all day. So, tomorrow, hopefully. I'm anxious to see how well it works.
Can the birds eat spicy seeds? It won't hurt them?
It doesn't hurt the birds at all. The pepper oil is only effective on mammals so the birds can eat it with not problems. :)

It doesn't bother the birds and they don't taste it.

People need to handle it carefully, not to get it in our eyes.

Dogs? I don't know. 🤔
So true! Husband needs to wear mask, gloves and even goggles wouldn't be a bad idea. 🥸

I think it would hurt our Lucius if he got into it so, we need to be careful to keep him away. The feeder isn't in a place he usually goes so it shouldn't be too difficult to keep him away, especially as he's never outside while not on leash.

I don't have any pictures today because it's been raining all day. We did get one of our lady Cardinal friend, but you guys have seen a lot of her, I know.

We put the hot seed in today, so hopefully tomorrow will be a bit dryer and we'll see how the seed works.

Husband has the idea to mount an umbrella on the cross poll above the feeder, but that will have to wait now until he gets back from Florida.

It's very windy today so the feeder is sending me lots of motion-detected pictures of... nothing.

But we did get this pretty little guy.

And earlier, before I'd cleaned the rain and soggy seeds out of the feeder, the camera caught this!

Look who was hanging out in the bush!

I'm so happy to see him! I've only seen his mate so far, but I knew he had to be around and there he is!

Pretty sure that's him near the fence as well.

So, you can see in the pictures what the rain did to the feeder over the course of yesterday. This morning, like a genius, I went out to the feeder, dumped out and reattached the tray, and then scooped more, dry seed from the feeder into the tray... with my bare hands. You know, the hot seed I've been talking about. The kind you really should have gloves and probably a mask on to handle?

I couldn't get the seed out of the feeder very quickly just using my finger to loosen it so I open the freaking feeder up to scoop handfuls.

I'm so thankful I realized what I'd done before I touched my face! Sheesh. I feel lame.

On the upside, I haven't received a single squirrel picture today. :)

Drill some small holes in the tray so the water can drain out.

Yikes ..... I'm so, so, so glad you didn't harm yourself with the peppered bird seeds!
@Medusa
😬😲😳
Thanks, @Kaila, I know, right? I was lucky there. 😶‍🌫️

Hurray for the wild birds party!😃🤩🥳

And oh .....
How great, it is, to see that male cardinal, who knows where your feeder is!
He'll be coming for a closeup photo, sometime soon.
😊☺️🤩🥰🥰
I know. :) I'm so happy about seeing him! :) I knew he had to be around because his pretty mate was at the feeder so much. This is really fun.

Drill some small holes in the tray so the water can drain out.
I agree. There should be some type of drainage .
You know, that is a really good idea!

That tray is meant for water, but we wanted to give the birds easy access and get them used to the feeder. It turns out that when taking seed from the little tray closer up, the birds are often too close to the camera for really good shots.

So, we're definitely going to be using it for seed going forward in which case drilling holes to drain water is a great idea. I'll tell husband about it when he returns from Florida. :)

PS: Now that I think about it, when watching videos of others' bird feeder camera's I realize that a lot of people are using that tray for seed.
